It sounds more like those twilight-zone experiences, if I read through your short history of buying and selling again

And I fully agree with you about Jez taking our piss (that right?) by telling us how beautiful the BMWs are... I think, his fingers would start burning up while trying to do so (in another conversation, he let me know, he thinks they are all „butt-ugly“)

When we were in France with the 2CV, they all called it Deux Chevaux. From Cheval (your chavel?)
I don‘t know about the vapeur... But could very well be. Just personally did not hear it yet.

Edit: Just found it: 2 Cheval Vapeur of course means 2 horse power. So this must be another appropriate name for it!!!

There IS a certain beauty in a BBMW, but, unless you have the skill and experience it’s very hard to appreciate.

I went into the store to see if my little legs would reach the floor on a Speed Twin without it lying on its side, and they do! However, it was brand new and very expensive.
Then spotted something unusual...R Nine T, ‘17 reg. Sat on it and rocked from side to side pretending I was cornering very fast and the bike felt quite light.
Got the figures off the sales person and went home to think. (I always give things like this lots of thought).
Back home I did a quick google and found a nearly new one (‘19 reg.) with a couple of ‘Extras’ for very little more money than the ‘17 model.
Called the shop, told ‘em how much I’d been offered for my Street T and they offered £100 more.
One week later I rode the ST down and came back on this German thing!

I do like the R Nine T, (Especially the shaft) but, after half a dozen 50 mile rides I don’t think the riding position is ideal for me. (The Street Twin position was great) Footrests a tad too high and far back (None adjustable) and handlebars too low and far away.
I’ve raised the ‘bars and brought them a bit nearer to me and that’s eliminated the spondylitis pain in my neck, however, the too bent leg position will almost certainly take some of the pleasure out of each ride.
As I said in earlier post, if Appleyards hadn’t sold their Speedy yesterday it would probably be mine now.
There doesn’t seem to be that many near new (I know there are some) Speed Twins about yet so I’ve decided to persevere with the UDP (Ugly ditch pump) until next spring, then, if I haven’t fallen off my perch I will get a Speed Twin. I probably won’t do many days riding before next spring anyway.

PS. Loved the Street Twin and thought 900cc would be enough for an old git, but no, it isn’t.
PPS. Does the ‘Squeal’ ’ come as standard on the Speed Twin, or is it an extra.

The squeal on the speed twin is a feature on the bike according to Triumph. I love the bike, but squealing brakes on a £10k+ new motorbike does not work for me.

The main reason I'm trading the bike for a tiger sport....

 

It is unfortunate that such a great bike is spoilt by a problem that triumph should be able fix for all speed twin owners.. All my other triumphs have been trouble free, so I'm hoping the tiger which is a proven machine will not suffer and problems.

 

I also bought something I didn’t need last week.
It’s a Bruhl Twin Turbine bike blower.
I don’t set off anywhere in rain, but do have a knack of finding a route home where there is some and because of health issues I can’t, or won’t? get down with a rag to dry the bike when wet from washing or rain.
Anyway, this blower is great for clearing the wet from everywhere, and it has a bit of heat too.
So powerful it damn near blows the bike off the stand. I shoulda bought one sooner.
They’re okay if you’re just lazy too.
