Motorcycle Camping

Ardnamurchan under canvas in mid September is a bit ‘Dagenham’ (2 stops past Barking!)
Camping at any time after 30+ years in the Army is my idea of a busman’s holiday anyway. An RV just about cuts it but on a bike? Wimp me out!

 

I'm in my 50's and still enjoy camping even by motorbike. I'm definitely of the less is more camp these days though and travel quite light.

 

And Ettrick is just over the hill so my mattress is audible from that parking bay!

 

Motorbike + camping = FREEDOM
I’ve been camping all my life
Been biking all my life
Put the two together and life is good

Just back from 2 weeks camping in Italian dolomites it was great the downside is that it's 600 miles from my house to Dover before the holiday starts

 

Good on you. Great pics. You are never too old for camping with friends. Even when the weather is a bit iffy you'll be able to reminisce. I was in Wales 2 weeks ago and it was 2 degrees at night with ice inside the tent. And I'm off this weekend. Best way to escape the drudgery of work and spend time with mates. 19 years ago I took my son camping almost the day he was born and we went everywhere including the beautiful west coast and islands of Scotland. Probably the best place I've ever camped. I'm almost 50 and I plan to keep going for years. I hope you do so too.

 

Camping. I'll ride my bike 500+ mile days on back to back days for days in a row. But at the end of the day I just want a hot shower, an adult beverage (or two), and a warm and dry bed. Indoors. Thank you very much.

You only need a caravan Park with good facilities to enjoy the Hot showers you wanted before bedtime

 

That is very cool, capt! But I do have one question. Who does the cooking??!!

 

Take it in turns Did 6 week tour to Darwin , Started in Northam WA. 11,300 or so klms. Two up , and steady as she goes ! Wore out two tyres , one chain ,but what a great trip. Wife really enjoyed it , changing scenery every day and the wild life saw Eagles every Day !

 

Wow, capt, that sounds like a fabulous trip! It would be so wonderful to be able to be out on the bikes for that length of time. Love the changing scenery and wildlife. And eagles every day?! Spectacular! How many miles/kilometers all told? Did you ride most every day or did you park and stay every now and again?

 

About 30 years ago a friend and I decided to do a Scottish tour from SW Scotland up the east coast over the top and down the west long before it became known as the NC500.It started raining in Symington just south of Kilmarnock and continued for 5 days! The only time it stopped was in Ullapool on the west coast.Great we thought suns out time to dry out some very soggy gear.Unfortunately suns out so were the midges !!Feckin delightful!! That was quite enough to put us off camping for life .....never again!!The joys of Scottish summer!

 

We stopped and stayed at several points. On the way up , Leinster, Karijini National Park, Broome and Adelaide river , stopped for 3 days in Darwin. On the way back we pushed on a bit , stayed over in Manbullo Station (Katherine NT) did Katherine gorge tour . Stopped in Kununurra and did quick day trip out to the Dam (Ord river) huge !! About 80 klms across at it's widest point. Stayed in Geraldton WA for three days , as rained and took time out to visit my brother's ( both ride ) Nick owns 1700 cc Victory and Pedro a HD Fatboy. Did 11,300 odd klms , most days limited to 200 odd klms. Pushing on to Geraldton to beat the Only rainy days we had , we did about 600 on two days. So some 7,000 miles. Back tyre was new two weeks before the trip , Front was maybe 5,000 klms used and chain was probably over half life used. Averaged about 14.5 to 15 klms litre. Best day 17 klms litre , worst under 13 , This photo was taken by Brenda on her phone , we slowed to about 70 kph /45 mph and got lucky , only Eagle we actually caught on still camera whilst moving. Once we were in the true North , the Wild Life and Natural Beauty of the Scenery was to die for , and the Four Wheelers and their Caravans just stormed through @ top speed, we were overtaken everyday at least once !!
