i noticed that when I ride my street triple in heavy rain, that the radiator seams to steam when I come to a stop (and smell like burning rubber), and when I park it, and put it on its side stand, water seems to drain from the bottom of the radiator, a good amount, like a cup of water.

Radiator coolant level isn’t effected, engine temp is normal (5bars) and engine oil level is normal.

Water may be finding its way into cavities in panels, then exiting when you tip the bike on the stand
The steam and smell is dirt in the water ( thrown up from the road) burning off / cooking on your hot metal.
With no loss of water there doesnt seem to be a problem IMO.

If it did that in dry weather, I’d be concerned. Water running off a wet bike with steam, seems normal to me ;)

I’m fairly new to riding, only a few years under my belt. But I never had that kind of burned rubber smell, steam and what seemed like quite a bit of water pouring out of a bike before. But if you guys say it’s nothing to worry about, than i’ll stop worrying.

Hi Ben, this is normal, if you have a blower of some sort blow out the water from the rads after washing your bike, tons of water comes out and drips once on the sidestand. Mine does exactly the same.

If the radiator is still wet then this is the best time to wash it out thoroughly. This removes the dirt from the road and also stops the foul odour.

Had to think of this thread when I got to work just now. Rode here in a downpour, and as I parked the bike a huge amount of water dripped down from behind the steaming radiator. I reckon water somehow collects there, and comes off once the bike is stationary.

That’s exactly what it is. The water doesn’t seem to run off the radiator until the bike is on the side stand, happens when I wash mine.
