Bought my KTM from pictures on eBay , had a good chat with the dealer and looked at the photos lots.
Arrived in the van and was in better condition than I thought it would be.
Bit nerve wracking, but paid off. Only reason was the fact there were no 250 4t in Scotland or north of England, so just had to take the gamble.

Spent $700 dollars to fly 1400 miles to look at a caravan that once I arrived needed some sorting out that a previous pro techs claimed was fixed, spent two days in the guest room of the owner got a new set of tools, As he had 2 techs attempt to fix the alternator charging issue that cost him $1200. Moral of the story if you can visually see the two belts slipping on the alternator and it freely spins with finger pressure it's not the alternator. Drove it 1400 miles home.

I bought a BMW GSA from pics and speaking to the owner on the phone, paid for it and had it transported up here!!Some serious trust involved but it turned out as good as described.

I bought my DRZ from Gumtree, I rang the guy up and chatted about the bike and asked him for some detailed pics. which he sent. by chatting to him I got the feel he was legit so put a £50 deposit on the bike. as he was up Scotland I said I would arrange for a courier company to collect the bike.
the deal was he rang me when the courier arrived and I did a bank transfer there and then. when he saw the money he let the bike go.

    It worked well for me

i bought a Ducati from a guy in Bristol, after he sent me loads of clear pics and a video of it running. We also exchanged numerous emails with me asking all sorts of questions. No excuse nowadays for not getting loads of up to date photos & even sending a video is pretty simple
The only thing i didn't like was the almost 900 mile round trip in my van to collect it:confounded:

Plenty of times, cars and bikes.

    Also sold that way too.

Paid in advance for dealer vehicles, but have always paid cash on collection for private ones.

But TBH with my limited mechanical knowledge, buying any vehicle is a roll of the dice - fortunately I've been lucky so far!
