I now have a strange picture in my mind of a small (miniature?) yet perfectly formed, leather clad Jez suddenly appearing screaming, howling and yelping around a hospital ward on a very small, yet fast and noisy, motorcycle, scattering nurses, midwives and other sundry medical staff to the four corners of the maternity suite, whilst your mum looks on smiling happily and serenely as your dad grins to himself proudly, thinking "That's my boy!!" Bugger me! I really do need help. Anyone seen the forum mind bleach anywhere?? Or perhaps my brain just needs a total re-wire. That would be useful on sooooo many levels! Senior?? Moi?? Oh yes ..... but how polite. Kind even! Especially for such an undeserving old sod!
Passed my test in the farms reconditioned ex army LWB Land Rover. Learnt to drive around the farm and then had a few lessons on the road from the other farm workers. Tester was impressed I could double de clutch. Truth was the syncro was bolloxed and it was the only way to get it into gear on downshifts. Got my bike test a week later.
Took my lessons in a Datsun 100 & 120, took my test in the 100 at Greys test centre, Essex, great little car, they both had 'racing' style seats too, when I was racing Fiat 127's (stands for Fix It Again Terry) the first thing I did was get one out of a 100 from the scrappies, easy to fit and take out when I (often) needed to build another 127! My 1st road car after my test was a Ford 100E that was originally owned by a female film star, she had a sliding sun roof put in from new.
Used to borrow my dads Metro when me and wor lass were courting and the back seat was JUST big enough for naughties But she’s titchy
Wish I still had this, was only about 6 years ago but going up in value every year now! Ex-Para, 24v radio shack complete with all the radio's. Did many a show with it round Wiltshire, Yeovil/Salisbury way.
Bike test on one of these Yamaha DT 125 Fitted with a 175 engine cos I blew it up Blew the 175 engine up as well I’m not very good with 2 strokes car test in one of these But it was in IRR green when I was in the RAF HGV3 in one of these Bedford MK Again while I was in the RAF Few years later when they changed the categories to LGV I got to drive HGV2 because they put them together in one category
I pretty sure I passed my bike test on my new Suzuki GT 250M Ram Air, LOO476P. Now I do wish I could get that back! Please ignore the slight indiscretion of once owning a B*W, but we all make mistakes through our life! I think I'm alright to still go to heaven!
Ha ha ha....When I started reading this thread, for some reason I was expecting modern/semi-modern cars. But page after page I saw vintage cars- some which I never knew existed. I could not have expressed my surprise in any other way but the question. But of course all in good humor and glad to know I am in the midst of such highly experienced but young-at-heart people
