955i Clutch

Evening all...so todays issue is difficulty finding neutral, especially when warm/hot...

I am winding the adjuster (on the lever) out and its better....then difficulty to get neutral again, so wind out a bit more...and so it goes on.

Put bike on centre stand and "in first but clutch lever pulled in" the wheel turns so a dragging clutch of some description.

Oil level is correct type and level.

The cable at the lever end is fraying - either by me winding and it catching the cable, or its aged.

No drive/slipping issues so i am assuming a new cable is the best way to go?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Does anyone have experience directly on my model (2002 955i speedy)?

Do I really need to take the fuel tank off, or is taping it to the old cable and pulling through going to work ok!?

It's never easy, is it!!?

So...IF I have to take the tank off...I need to replace 2 rubber o rings (on the fuel hose unions)...and, if I'm taking the tank off...I may as well replace the air filter!

Question:. What size are these pesky o rings!?

And...why can't I find them on Wemoto!?

 

They look the ones - round, black and rubbery. I'll assume they are the right size!

I'll get some as I guess I'll do the air filter soon anyway, so will need the tank off...so thank you.

Meanwhile....955i clutch cable is terribly simple!! You can see it quite easily where it pokes through the frame etc... certainly doesn't need taping and pulling through...I just poked it through easy peasy...plenty of clearance and easy to route it through. No need to take the tank or anything off...just a couple of cable ties to snip...

Clutch is still 'heavy' but I have nothing to compare it to, and my left wrist is far weaker than my right one , but it is certainly nice and smooth...and neutral is a joy to select!

All done start to finish, including readjusting the clutch to my liking...25mins...?

For about 12 quid delivered in a day or so...it's an easy, satisfying and worthwhile job...

Excellent! Couldn't be happier.

Not only did it resolve my "snatchy pick-up" (which I also happened to have a cream for, but that was a different matter)...but it was also easy to fit without taking anything else off the bike!

I would heartily recommend it!
