I don't know mate, but they do.That's why I bought the new helmet with the built-in small visor - much better with that. It's also much better if I ever get caught out in the rain, previously my forehead felt like it was being pebble-dashed !

This is the new one :

:DSimples!!! I've seen me screeching to a halt because it felt like something
out of star trek crawling towards said ear only, after ripping off helmet, to find
a green fly. Normaly followed by shouts of wuss, silly jock git (in German) from
    my fellow riders.

Thanks guys, but here's the sad end to the tale. On my way to White parish near Salisbury up the A36 went to overtake a lorry on the dual carriageway and the twat in front pulls out right in front if me. Braked hard front and rear but the bugger went down and over the other side of the carriageway. How the guy behind missed me rolling around I don't know.
Currently in Salisbury hospital waiting to be seen. Bit grazed and battered but nothing broken except the bike.

No mate, I genuinely think he didn't see me or the car behind me or the accident. The police phoned to say that they've traced the car (even though we didn't get the registration) but not yet interviewed the driver.

Thanks for all your good wishes guys.
I think I'm very lucky at the end of the day - nothing broken and it could have been a lot worse.
The moron was sat right behind a lorry on a dual carriageway all the time I was catching up to him. I pulled out to overtake, as did the car behind me, and accelerated and the next minute he's out and about a foot in front of me and going much slower. Instinctively pulled on the brake and the big went down on it's left side and off I went.
Bike went right across the other carriageway and hit the kerb (no central reservation). Guy behind just missed running me over!
All credit to the gear I had on: BMW trousers and the lightweight RS jacket with armour. I landed on my left side and have a nice armour shaped bruise on my hip, nasty graze along my left arm, and quite bruised hands with a couple of odd cuts. Had Alpinestars summer gloves on with a plastic section across the palm - now well scraped - but would look for this in new gloves. (Will update the pictures in my clothing review section).
The people following me turned out to be UK border patrol guards who helped me to the side of the road and provided a good description of the accident to the police. Two guys stopped and moved the bike off the road, the next person to stop was a nurse who was just fantastic. Next (would you believe) was a neuro surgeon followed by an A & E doctor - all before the ambulance arrived!
Big thanks to Maggie and her ambulance crew ( one of them was a biker and had come off twice so we had a good chat!) and all the staff who helped at Salisbury Hospital. Just managed to avoid them using the "pan scourer" to clean up my arm!
I was going to meet a mate (work related) and was quite close to him so was able to ask him to come out and pick the bike up - don't know how bad it is though yet. The police brought it over and stood it up in a field entrance and told me all the damage is on the LH side - the footpegs have gone but that's all I know so far.
Will call him this morning to find out more.

That's typical innit , 100's miles abroad with no probs & get back here to be taken out , same thing nearly happened with us , about 25 miles into the UK this bloke just pulled straight out of a junction without looking , four of us with headlights on , Ivan in front with high viz had to take drastic avoiding action , trouble was we were all a bit strung out & desperate for coffee so it was lucky really the daft sod didn't cause carnage. Hope you and the bike get fixed up soon

Hi Bikerman, this was two years ago and Steve now has a beautiful nearly new one - Orange and black with some discrete tasty mods - and the obligatory "Saucy" pipes. :p:p:D:D:D:D:D
