Hi, just collected the bike this afternoon - beautiful machine. A friend of mine bought one last year and at the end of May we went over to the Isle of Man to watch some of the racing over there. Everywhere he went his bike was drawing crowds, even people on the street were turning to watch him ride up the road. So it wasn't a surprise when the same thing happened this afternoon. It's great - good to chat with people. I just posted about bar vibrations causing my right hand to go a bit numb - hoping that will go away once I can rev above 4,000rpm. Anything else I should look out for?? I'm thinking of getting the dual seat and pegs and the nylon panniers. How good are the panniers? I'm very handy with a socket set but how much work is it to fit and remove the pannier mounting rack?? And how good are the panniers? My other bike's a 2001 Fazer - another great machine. Think I'll keep the Fazer for rainy days. I've just got to learn how to clean bikes properly now so I can keep the Thruxton nice ;-) Cheers, Dave
Welcome Dave and congrats on the new bike I’ve got a 98 Fazer 600 in the stable too, in the process (slow) of a rebuild/refresh. Let’s see a pic or two of your bikes, we like piccies
Welcome to a terrific forum, Dave. Yes, please share a photo or two of your Thruxton R. I had a 2016 which I recently traded. And I do miss it--enjoy yours!
Congratulations on your purchase Dave! I got one in 2016 - I happened to arrive at the dealer as the first dealer demo was being unloaded. 20 minutes later I'd put down a deposit and traded my 955i i'd owned for 13 years oops. Absolutely love it, no issues except I put WD40 in the lock barrel - that caused me problems as the key jammed. The dealer was great and sorted it with some special lube - can't recall what it was called. I've got the wax cotton panniers and just fitted a Renntec rack - very easy to do. Panniers are quite small - my work laptop is a squeeze! I should really trade to a Tiger as I'm planning a few long trips, but I can't bring myself to part with the Thruxton….we'll see how many miles I can munch on it in a few weeks with a test weekend round Scotland...… I'm in the middle of kitting it up with some more luggage.....
We need pictures... I too have a Fazer 2001 in my stable to keep my Speed Triple company Fantastic 600 engine, and good for rainy days when I want my S3 to be kept clean I upgraded my Fazer with Hel brake lines and a Pipewerx GP3 'silencer' with a baffle. Sounds awesome and goes like stink
Photos! OK, here's the Thruxton. And the Fazer, on my recent trip to the TT. They opened the mountain one-way and with that and no speed limit... well, that finished off my chain and sprockets ;-) Actually, a few of you have said you have Fazers... when I took the swingarm out I found the bearings had completely seized - it's worth taking a look coz mine had only done 40,000 miles and it really needed doing! Cheers, Dave
Hi Dave, welcome in. From one ‘R’ owner to another, take some time to scroll through the Thruxton posts on this forum, it may save you time asking questions that have already been addressed, such as luggage, seats etc. Enjoy your new bike, it is a belter!
Welcome! You’ve joined a very good forum...I’m still shiny new and it feels like being in the pub with old friends...some may prefer me saying long term friends..less of the old Great bike,my lad has a Fazer as his first bike.. Enjoy! M
Dave Roxburgh. Welcome to the family. Lovely brace of bikes you have there. Great pictures. They will keep the inmates happy while ogling. How's the grin factor right now. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe.
