Arrived in Zell after a 489 mile trip. Left blighty at 3.30am, crap ride to Folkestone - it rained on M25 - slight delay on Eurostar but enjoyed a breakfast. (Mild amusement from BMW boys in next carriage).
Only time off the bike apart from two more fuel stops. Got an amazing 160 miles before switching to reserve and 205 miles in total as I finally found a filling station in Wittlich. Thank you German dude for guiding me to it in your car!
Even better, our host Herr Bienert has let me garage the bike (in his wine producing cellar) and given me a key.
German hospitality - they love bikes. Roads are to die for in the Mosel valley - all sweeping curves and fast straights with awesome views all round.

You lucky man on a trip! That fuel range is impressive. You by yourself? How much luggage did you manage to carry?(don't tell me just those little tool size things on the side?)

Nice run Steve. I did the Mosel Valley on my way to Greece by bike back in the mid 70's I am sure it is still as impressive now as it was then, its a trip I'd like to do again....oneday...sigh

Yes it's still great - really smooth roads and people pull over to let bikes pass - amazing! Lots of bikes around, mainly Dutch and German - not many Triumphs though.

Cheers mate - roads still smooth and a very biker friendly environment - tired left arm after waving it around so much, might resort to left leg tomorrow!

After a brief trip to Cocham yesterday afternoon, an update on biker meet etiquette. Dutch - enthusiastic leg waving - love it. German - left arm casually held out or fingers lifted off bar - cool. Three British Honda riders ( who passed me as I was parked taking a photo, so could see my GB plate) nothing! Ah well.

Aah well, at home you always get a sideways head nod from most bikers, the exception is pizza delivery lads, so maybe you came across some of them! Wouldn't put it past them to be lost!

Made the 110 mile round trip to Trier, famous for it's Roman architecture, especially the Porta Nigra (black gate) and mediaeval cathedral.

    519201591957.jpg

Very busy and hot - parked up in centre - lots of bike parking, and spent about 4 hours there.
Time to leave and found i was missing one glove - bugger must have dropped it. Not wanting to risk the ride back, found T K Max and bought a pair of work gloves for 3.40 euros, sort of fake leather and heavy canvas but better than nothing.
On way back to the bike saw my glove in the middle of the pavement - no one had touched it! Amazing! Anyone need some work gloves?
