Poor Bonnie, that's like the equivalent of being forced to wear taped up glasses. I hope both yourself and the bike didn't sustain any further damage.
Touring in France. After hard days riding decide to fill up in order to get a good start the following day. Pulled up at the pump, decide to swing my leg over to get off thinking I won’t need my side stand down. What a dork! In fairness to the French watching they didn’t laugh and came to my assistance to pick the bike up. Have 8 more days to go in France and Belgium with my Heath Robinson repair. Hopefully going to see a squadron of Dakotas launch a parachute jump at Caens in Wednesday.
I think there is a lesson in there for us all Mark. When your tired the brain does not always work that well......
I can vouch for that. I broke my lever a couple of weeks ago on tour with a mate on a 20 year old Japanese bike and was surprised when the spare he had taken also fitted my Bonneville Speedmaster.
Well I got the spanners out and changed the levers for some nice TEC black anodized ones. BUT in the process of switching them I didn’t see a tiny micro switch for the front brake light. Guess what I broke it - so I’ve compounded the cost of repair. It’s off to the dealers - apparently £110 for new unit.
Apparently Triumph don’t supply them separately as the cable is fed through a unit with other gubbins, apparently.....
Thanks for this I’ve emailed the link to my dealer who has been very helpful in the past to ask why this won’t do the job. Thanks a lot for the time you have spent researching this for me. All the best.
Just had a conversation with the dealer who showed me the diagram below. He maintains its the right part for the job.
Feel sorry for you mate, especially when things happens on a foreign land. If I would be on your place I would keep on riding injured as long as I could making photoshoots of various scenery with broken lever on a background True hero
That’s daylight robbery! And I’ve never seen any bike, including Triumphs, that have the switch built into the switchgear
Part numbers 25 and 26 on that diagram are the front brake switch and bracket, and screw so it does look like a separate part to me. And it’s only a tenner from Fowlers. Looks like they’re on backorder at the moment though.
Cheers Ron. That’s decent of you. I’ll send you my details off list. Let me send you some beer vouchers.
Ron I hadn’t realized you were an American cousin. Dozers Dads right it’ll be cheaper if I sort out from eBay etc. Your offer was still a fabulous and appreciated one, however. All the best.
