Took the rear brake calipers off my Bonneville Speedmaster so I could remove the wheels and this bit fell off...

Can anyone tell me where it goes back?

Look on world of Triumph at the exploded drawings. It sits on top of the pads pressing down.

Thanks, I'll try and work it out from that description. Note, there are no diagrams for the new Speedmaster and for it's very close cousin the Bobber Black the spring isn't shown on the diagram that I can see.

Normally these push into the top of the caliper and rest on the pads

Hmm, there's already a spring at the top between pads and housing. This thing that fell off is less spring like, it's just flat metal with tabs. Mystery item is in my fingers...

Perhaps a anti squeel shim that fits on the back of pads

Think I've solved the mystery? Fits nicely on the caliper carrier.

EDIT: Think that makes sense, that's where the tabs on the brake pads rest and the mystery item will act as a steel shim to protect alloy carrier.
