Odometer Issue

So I bought a 2012 Street Triple less than a month ago at 8,600 miles. I haven’t regularly been checking the odometer until I checked today and it read 11,400 miles! There is absolutely no way I’ve ridden it 3k miles in the past month so I searched online for any type of odometer problems that would cause a jump in mileage like this. Sure enough I found a post on a different forum about how Street Triples can have their odometers reset if you leave the light on and let the battery drain except one guy had accidentally left his lights on and the battery drained and when he recharged it his odometer jumped up 2k miles instead of resetting to zero. I then remembered that a couple weeks ago I had accidentally left my key in the on position over night and had to recharge my battery! 9,400 miles sounds a lot more like where the odometer should show!


Has anyone ever heard about this or had a similar problem? Unfortunately my dealership is closed on Mondays so I won’t be able to call until Tuesday to ask about it.

Thank you for the reply! I bought it from an independent seller. No warranty. I’ll take it in with the post that I read and the title to show the mileage when I bought it. Hopefully they’ll be understanding and can help! There goes any chance of reselling it before next winter if not!
