Whilst riding around the Lakes yesterday. My Speed RS started to have problems in 4th gear. Its a bit like a slipping clutch for a milli second. This only happens when riding hardish through the gears. Get to 4th and the rear wheel skips 2/3 times (v unnerving). Could it be a fuelling/throttle problem?

Maybe the clutch isn’t adjusted properly. If it’s not fully releasing it could be slipping. But that should be happening that all gears.

Perhaps your laying down the power too hard?

Update......It's been in the workshop for the past 10 days. They are looking for the fault in the gear box. Not happy.

Albi, I think mine might be doing the same thing. I noticed it the other day and thought the tire spun up due to the torque the bike has. I was in 4th gear and was passing a vehicle and was leaning the bike over a little with aggressive throttle and the rpms went up very fast. I don’t think the tire actually spun up, I think it’s just reving up. This only happens in 4th gear and while leaned over. You’re right, it’s very unnerving.

Steve, the mechanic is now in the gear box (selector or 4th gear) still cant find the route cause yet. Not pleased as only 2000 miles and 4 months old. mine skipped whilst upright. Ive had a lot of 4th to 5th false neutrals with the quick shifter which failed after a month (now replaced) Thing is, i'm now pissed off that the bike is a wrong'un. I love the bike but it is now (damaged goods) so the sheen has dissolved. If you get my drift....

That’s too bad. I am also having false neutrals and have stopped using the quickshifter, just waiting on Triumph to replace it. Let’s hope the gearbox gets sorted soon, the weather is to good to have a bike in the shop. They should give you a demo to ride.

Went to the dealer yesterday. My engine was stripped down and laid out on a work station. The mechanic showed the 4th gear that was damaged. I have a replacement RS now so am pleased to have a like for like ride. I am contemplating a replacement bike (new) under the consumer rights act.

So it was a damaged 4th gear? How would that happen? Did they tell you how something like that could happen and can they repair it? If they can repair it, I think I would keep the bike knowing that it’s repaired, as new bike might have the same issue.

Apparently the quick shifting problem and aggressive false neutrals have shear'd a tooth off the gear cog.

The bike could now have inherent gear box problems, as it may have metal shards floating around.

Good that you now know what’s the problem. And glad I didn’t opt for the QS, :relieved:

So what are they going to do? Sounds like they should replace the gearbox, problem solved.

As long as the technician washes everything out, the gearbox will be fine.
Other than the false neutrals, were the quick shift excessively violent?

Mine were very violent. On hard acceleration it would false neutral then basically hit the rev limiter and slam into the next gear. :worried: Brutal. Mine has done that about 5 times.

ugh... That's definitely not good, I'd stop using the Q/S until you can get your dealer to sort it out.
It's a shame, the quick shifters are so much fun to use hopefully it's something that can easily get adjusted.

Yeah the quick shifter has been disabled for a little bit. I doubt an adjustment will work. They’ll have to replace the quick shifter and possibly look into the gearbox to see if there’s any damage there as well. As long as the revving doesn’t get worse I’ll wait till the end of the season to get the gearbox sorted.

Triumph know about a problem with the gearbox quickshifter issue so hold tight, hopefully a fix will be sorted soon

These problems shouldn't be apparent on a brand new bike? If it was a less expensive 2nd hand bike, I could get my head round it.

Ok, today’s ride had the same issue again but now while straight upright. Happened several times. Calling the dealer tomorrow morning to drop off the bike. Maybe I shouldn’t sell the Street Triple just yet.

I'd definitely hold on to the street till your sure the QS problem is solved with the speed.
