Sorry to hear about your troubles with your bike. When you buy something new you expect it to be top dollar and working. I hope you get it sorted....
Thanks. Should know by early next week if the finance company are rejecting it. Then all I got to do is buy and new one get it run in in time for 30th May trip to Spain lol.
Have you considered a hard break in for the bike instead. Much quicker and imho better for your bike.
I’m jealous of your upcoming trip to Spain. It’s definitely on my bucket list of things to do. I’ve been watching people like The Missenden Flyer, Lamb Chops Rides, Two Wheels and a Ponytail and others riding in Southern Spain with Toro Adventure. Looks epic.
The finance company phoned today. The dealer has investigated further and will be replacing the clutch and balance shaft, hopefully be completed Friday. As these parts don’t constitute an engine rebuild I’m happy to take it back if it sorts the whistling noise, though I’m not convinced it will. Upshot of it is that I’ll have the bike Friday either fixed and no whistling noise or still whistling and grounds to reject it outright as they’ve been given a chance to rectify the issue. I’d rather it be fixed at this late stage of the game but what will be will be. Triumph will be compensating me for the hassle and the four weeks I haven’t been able to ride my bike so that’s good. Fingers crossed for Friday eh?!
Ype! Whatever the outcome, hope it goes as well as possible for you. It sounds like an horrendous amount of hassle and entirely unnecessary. Good luck.
AndyMarksonline. Well hope it does sort it for you. You never know with these things. And glad Triumph stepped up a little. Here's hoping you get the smile back on your face and have a great trip. Send us all a couple of pic's and let us know how the Bike is behaving. Also running in these day's is just a mater of after the 500 miles is keeping the revs down. Most modern engines are partially run in before they get fitted to the bikes. Finger Crossed for you. Joe.
So today I got the result I should’ve got a few weeks ago. Phoned the dealer they said that they’d replaced the clutch basket and balancer shaft and it still made the same noise. They said triumph had told them to replace the crankshaft. I told them I wasn’t happy with that but they said that was all triumph we’re offering. A quick phone call to the finance company and due to the fact they’d had a chance to repair it and hadn’t done so they rejected the bike there and then. I’m free to purchase a new one which I’ll attempt to do tomorrow as I have to get it run in and serviced before I go on the 30th. Just shows that having something on finance is sometimes beneficial. If I had paid cash I’d be stuck waiting for a repair god knows how long. Anyway I’m hoping to put this whole saga behind me now. The speed RS is a tremendous bike and hopefully I’ll be luckier with the new one. It has dented my confidence in them as a brand and how they treat their customers though. Andy.
Andymarksonline. Sure glad you are going to get sorted. And yes do hope the new Steed turns out to be sweet. Should never got this far to start with. And no wonder your confidence is dented. You buy a new bike you expect a new bike not one with a replacement crank or any other bits for that mater. I just hope your trip helps you put this all behind you. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe.
Glad it worked for you mate. Too bad you were treated the way you were. I’m sure the next RS will be glorious. Have a fantastic trip on the new sexy beast.
I’m going to get it from the same dealer I bought it from (if they can get me on one in a few days). Laguna Ashford. To be fair the dealer hasn’t been too bad they were just doing want triumph told them.
Really glad to hear this Andy. When the dealer sorts a problem out quickly, efficiently, and keeps you informed, these things don't get a chance to escalate. Of course it's disappointing when it happens, but decent customer service is the key to recovering the situation. Mine was one of the very first 2018 models on the road (a couple of days after they were delivered to dealers). I've only had minor troubles (baggy oil cap O ring, binding clutch lever, failed brake lever modulation wheel) and possibly the next thing will be a sticking joy stick, as it sometimes needs help to return to neutral. Small fry I know, but these issues were sorted instantly by Jack Lilley (aka Lind, aka Triumph East London) - and I'll report the joy stick before its full service next month...and I know they will order and fit the part without question. The RS is a tremendous bike and I wish you well with the new one - what a great result for you
