Exhaust cleaning

Discussion in 'Triumph General Discussion' started by billyandmollysdad, Mar 25, 2015.

  1. The header pipes on my Bonnie have ended up looking a bit scabby over the course of time. Has anyone got any tips for cleaning them ? I did plan on wrapping them, but not so sure I want to do that now.
    Any tips ?

i use the wifes oven clean it comes complete in a box with solution and a bag simply cover down pipes in solution insert into the bag leave for a couple of hours then rinse with cold water and they have always come up like new a friend told me about it and he uses it on loads of st/st and chrome parts for a fast clean and its only a fiver for the box.

  6. That's a good idea, but only any good where the pipes are removed from the bike, right ?
I have no intention of taking the pipes off, I just want a product I can apply and wash off...
Thanks for the tips so far chaps :)

Solvol Autosol works well on pipes too.

  8. I doubt Solvol would work on them now, I will try and post some pics later today. They look a bit scabby now. I had intended wrapping them over winter, but all my bike plans went a bit skew wiffy lol.

Before dismissing it completely, have a look at this video and pay particular attention to the method:

  10. I have just ordered a bottle of Optiglanz, as recommended by Roadrider...
After reading all the reviews on this stuff, it sounds like the stuff I need. We will see how it performs.

  11. Yeah, it's expensive...but, it's supposedly the dogs doo dars, so I thought I'd try it as it works on wheels as well.
    Flash, I am not :p :D

It is expensive but it goes a long way.
A bottle will last us (1 speed 1 street) over a year if we do them a couple of times a year.

  13. Nah, I have to disagree with you there half ton. For me, biking is all about getting fly's in yer teeth, and wind in yer hair, not sat cross legged sweating away with bloody knuckles, swearing and cursing.
Ride it first, clean it when you can't ride it

Just used this method to remove the marking from my exhaust headers. Worked a treat!
