Thought that may be the case, to get it just right I think it would need the thum wheel fixing ear chopped off and a new one made, welded on with the hole in the right place and re painted a royal pita maybe later or I may get used to it .

You can move the tab with a hammer and stretch the panel a bit and even open the hole in the panel as screw is held in with clip.

Here's my poor panel fit ! Thanks for the advice I may have just enough black left to repaint . Is it particularly bad ?

That's not bad, could oval hole out and then the top mount gap would open out to match bottom :)

Hmm , the thumb screw hole when offered up is about half inch out of ideal , when fitted as is it lifts the bottom mount about half off its rubber . Do you mean oval thumb screw hole to allow it to drop back down onto the lower rubber ? wont you see the oval hole ?

By ovaling the hole between 1 n 2 o'clockjust a little and filing the square on the tab so you could drop the cage nut would mean you might just get it looking a little better,

cheers I think your right , feel a little better now after looking at the pic below which shows it off its peg , the bike having being restored by Don Huchings in Us which is a name that seems to crop up regularly when searchin the net for Bonneville stuff . A little fettle and hopefully will look no worse than this one . 1969_triumph_bonneville_2.jpg

If you can make it a little better then be happy with it at this stage, you can always revisit at a later stage if you are losing sleep over it lol. Great work so far :)

Reasonably happy with the side panel now , a bit of filing helped some .

I have turned my attention to the rear guard and more to the point its mounting holes which don't seem correct .
The additional loop at the back ,lifting handle was missing from the bike so bought a new one , this has two tabs /mout holes but there are none corresponding in the guard which suggests the guard may be off another model ? it has the two holes further up where a clip goes and these seem to correspond in the correct place . I can drill some more holes but would be interested in any thoughts . Do all the other holes look like they are needed as dont want to paint then find they are not . I am guessing but the third hole near the upper clip maybe for wires? Thanks

Ahh ok thanks darkman , I left the tail light casting with a local polishing guy last week before i checked , seems odd though having to drill the extra two holes , this you think because its an acter market guard or my bike just never had the 2nd rail/ lift handle ? It certainly looks old enough and matched tank paint wise .

Not sure on that, when you have housing back then it will make sense. Rear mudguard is also wrong for 69 T120 as it should only have rolled edge at the bottom sorry, looks like an early TR6 one :-(

Hey no problem , far better spotted now than when in paint ! so thanks , I am learning a lot of stuff here ,BTW did all or most later t120 guards have just the roll on the trail edge ? I am aware of some hole diferences I think , seeing that some had a breather pipe clipped to .

70 only with this shape guard as it had the external pipe and extra fitting holes.
