I have cable tied mine (ctek) to the frame in the same area.

Short question about the display settings. Is it possible to choose the dark display (low contrast setting) as a permanent one? If yes, how is it dialed in?

    There's a short answer to that – no ;)

It's a safety thing...if you have the low contrast (dark) mode selected, it will always switch to high contrast (light) mode in bright sunlight to ensure that the display is always visible.

Obviously this isn't the case if you set high contrast (light) mode - which stays white even when it's dark, dazzling you, so that you can no longer see the road ahead (but at least you can see the instruments).

I'm sure Triumph knew what they were doing

Thanks, it’s a pity because the low contrast can be read perfectly in brighter conditions, too - and looks cooler in my opinion...

Doesn‘t change anything at the bike quality overall of course.

Order a stick on web cam cover on Amazon,3 for 9 bucks. They have a slider that you can open/close. Just place it on the left side of the LCD to cover the ambient light sensor. Flip closed for dark, open for light...works great.

Other than that, no permanent option in the menus.

That's pretty sweet and has the "carbon fiber" look to boot! Thanks for sharing. :grinning::grinning:

Nice job Pete - the lady on the bench to the right appears to be giving either you or your bike (or both) an admiring glance :)

She asked me to turn it down, knew I shouldn't of took them discs out the exhaust :joy:
It's still salty out so I'm giving Rosie a bubble bath and bike dry

...and the other six people were hard of hearing

What have you done with your heat shield Pete? Powder coated black maybe, or is it just shadow?

    It looks brilliant!

Very good eye you have my friend, had it power coated, the result was very similar colour to the bike, i was very happy and cost peanuts to get done.
On a separate note, I really do think the rs should come with a steering damper on, under hard power it does shake it's head a bit, have you or anyone else had the same problem?
I'm going to see if i can source one or if you come across a one for the rs, Mrtriple would you please let me know? :)

It's a big improvement Pete - really nice.

Cerakote (example) is a good finish too - applied by a specialist. I think they start by shot-blasting, before applying a very thin ceramic coating. It's so thin you can coat bolt threads and they still do up. Several colours available but the black looks great.

Interesting that you mention the damper - I'd not thought of looking into that specifically. I'm still exploring the changed handling characteristics since my exhaust weight loss and suspension tune.

I gave it full (full) beans plus shift assist on a wide open road recently - as we journeyed through third gear, I suffered some vigorous head shake and it scared the life out of me. I was probably a bit tense with the 'excitement' and gripping too hard.

I haven't been able to induce the same symptoms again, so perhaps it was just some over-zealous riding in an effort to admire my own exhaust note.

My bike responds quite sharply to very light steering inputs and I'm wondering whether something needs 'backing off' a bit. I need to learn how to recognise symptoms and make adjustments myself, but I'm not there yet!

I only ever had one slapper on mine and I was yanking the bars trying to see it it would wheelie of the throttle in third... it didn't. Generally a tight grip on the bars can cause "slappers" also body position can help / hinder . May be worth going somewhere quiet and trying different body positions and amount pulling on the bars. Failing that you may be able to tune out on the suspension.

That's more or less what I tried the next time I went out – a lower position, stronger grip on the tank and very light on the bars...plus more progressive, smoother acceleration. Not a sign of any trouble.

To be honest, I've not wanted to induce a repeat of what happened before o_O

They definitely wheelie in third ;) hahaha
Tbh It's not just today RoSies shuck her head, noticed it last year as well, it kind of reminds me of my early R reg R1 I owned in it's nature.
I do have a video of today riding recorded but ive not a clue how to upload it on here yet.
I am going to book it in to get the suspension looked at, to see if that helps but I am going to look for a steering damper as well.

If anyone wants a satin black heat shield, I have used plastidip on my old speed triple S with great results. I also painted the radiator cowls. It’s costs just under a tenner a can so a very cheap mod. Need to get round to doing it on the RS

I think you have to accept a degree of twitchiness if you want the brilliant handling on a bike with quick steering. I test toad the street RS and that was proper flightly when pushing on ... You can tune it out by lowering the rear or raising the front but then you lose the great chuckability ... I suppose it comes down to your priorities. Mine definitely does not lift the front on the straights . But it shoots skyward on a crest when pushing on .. without slapping generally .. the demo bike felt a bit quicker than mine so maybe they vary a bit ..

I'm a big fan of Plastidip too - and did the radiator cowls on my old R. They came out like this:

When you don't like it any more, it just peels off. Not sure how heat resistant it is off hand - but if it's stayed put on your heat shield, then I guess it's pretty good.
