Clive Woods T3 Workshop

Yes. I used to run the Jack Lilley race team with Clive.
I don't necessarily "Plug" but I know his skill levels and would pit him against any triumph tech. Even more so when it comes to T3s, T5s, Streets or Segem efi, so when someone has a problem I know he is the best out there to help folks out.
The triumph techs used to get a brush over the efi system by the factory namely Chris Willis. But Clive had tuition from Sagem and we were involved with Datalogging etc. Infact the guys who wrote the programmes are now personal friends.
He doesn't do things like a conventional dealer, They are there when he works on there bike any learn a lot about there m/c.
The t3 courses are very popular. with guys coming from all over, Last time they came from Ireland, Belgium and all over the UK. Most stay over and we all go up the pub on the evening were its great, like net-working. They are all swapping face book friends emails etc and find new friends with a common interest. Many have now done it 2 times. If they tell the missus they are going on a boys weekend they get grief. tell them its a maintenance course and its no bother lol.

Clive holds nothing back with his experience and gives out honest and free advice, again unlike a dealership who fobs you off or tells you a load of "Bollocks". So yes Thinking about it I guess I do plug him but with only the best intentions.

Indeed. Unlike the dealers who go to lengths to keep you out the workshop Clive is completely the opposite. And the more keen you are to learn about your bike the more in depth he will show you things. It all helps people to care for their machine. Remember we all have different levels and to some this can almost be life saving.
I'm all for people doing things themselves if they have enough knowledge. However I have also seen things that are most frightening from home maintainace. It's nice to know with Clive he will show you the correct methods for maintainace. Surprising how many can't get their chain the correct tention. Just an observation.
Many say it's the 1st time they actually enjoyed taking their bike for a service. It's an occasion instead of a pain.

Just as a foot note. Many riders are happy to have Clive prep their bike for a TT race. (We did 6 with Jack Lilley). There are not many bike techs I would be happy to prep mine for a lap. They are few and far between.

Last time there was 18 of us for a meal afterwards. Everyone had a great week end away.

 

Applies to t3 engines used in early bikes and including tiger, thunderbird motors.
Full engine strip including valve clearances and top end removal, then crankcase split to show sprag replacement.
Then covers known faults on the bike. Carbs, electronics, brakes, ignition testing etc etc.
Full one day course. £80. inc buffet lunch afternoon cakes etc and loads of coffee/tea
Most stay overnight at local hotel so we all have a group meal/networking with likeminded people.
These have proven very popular and give them confidence to look after there machine rather than relying upon dealers.
Clive ran Jack Lilleys race team and regarded as the t3 guru in the UK. He holds back none of his knowledge built up from over 25 years running Hinckley Triumph Bikes.
Course held at Swineshead in Lincolnshire.

 

I have met Clive in person once and he is a top guy. He talked me through everything and took a real interest in showing me the ropes. Whenever I get stuck, I'll drop him a message and he always comes back. Once I get the finances sorted I will be looking to book a course.

Hey Paul. I got the heads up for the March course from Clive (and yourself, I think?) but the course ran on THE ONE day that I'm committed to driving my stepson to Heathrow - an appointment that's been made for some time and which I can't really break.

I've asked Clive to let me know as early as possible when the next one will run as I'm determined to get on to a T3 course sometime this year so, if he doesn't remember, hopefully you will!

I can wholeheartedly and enthusiastically endorse what Paul - and others - say about Clive WOODS. He is a really, genuinely nice man with an incredible depth of knowledge and experience on a range of Hinckley Triumphs. His wife is charming and immensely caring and the whole setup there is relaxed, friendly and unintimidating. It was almost worth the trip to get up close and personal with his ex-race Fireball Orange Speed Triple Challenge race bike!

@Clarkey231 if you're ever going to return to Clive's - for servicing, a course, etc., - do let me know, please. I'm near Tivvy. I went up there last year with two Streets (mine and hers) on a trailer and it was a long, tedious journey. It was, ultimately, worth every penny and every moment though, and I'm in absolutely no doubt that I'll be making the trip again - maybe we can split costs or just have company?

@Dozers Dad - that (bloody gorgeous) Sprint Exec. you have makes you a prime candidate for one of these courses and it's a fairly short trip for you - just do it!

Fair point, though. That said, everyone should have at least one 885 triple in the stable somewhere.

Sorry for the delay in replying. At the moment while mine is in warranty and the dealer is a couple of miles away I’m happy to use them. I’ve got an old Daytona with the T3 engine so that’s my primary reason for travelling to do the course. Never say never though!

 

I'm relatively new to Triumph so without sounding, hopefully, a total idiot, what years and models was a T3 engine fitted to?
I have the 765, are they similar or totally different?

This course only covers the T3 motor right? or is there other motors planned to be covered?
