@Callumity at the risk of being pedantic? Apparently the island is not named after a dun, but some Irish saint named Donan?

 

Pedantry and cynicism are my middle names!

My Gaelic speaking cousins translated for me donkeys years ago. Down the years a lot of romance and mythology has been attached to some place names and the true origin of many of them is suspect. Donnan is a historical figure about whom next to nothing is know beyond his martyrdom on the Isle of Eigg. Place names like Kildonnan (Kil being ‘chapel’) have obvious saintly connections but Gaelic spelling and their recording in English are sometimes suspect. So? Donan, Donnan, Dunan - where ‘an’ is a masculine diminutive (like -chen and -lean in German or -je etc., in Dutch)

There is archaeological evidence of a small dun being progressively enlarged but none of a supposed chapel. My cousin Jimmy (Seamus!) was a bit dismissive of the saint on a small tidal island more likely reinforced as a refuge from raiders......a dunan. Edinburgh is rendered in Gaelic as Dunedin - hence the city founded by expat Scots in a country named by the Dutch Abel Tasman.

The truth is out there!

 

Here's the design for the 2019 Scottish Road Trip T-Shirt, the pictures show it on a Black and a White T-Shirt but It should look ok on other colours if you want. I will send everyone a PM later to find out the size and colour they want (If you don't want one that's not a problem), I will donate the price of the t-shirts you will just have to pay for the set up and printing charges, there is quite a few colours (as well as a set up charge the printer charges £25 per colour used) I'm guessing the price will be about £10.00 per t-shirt possibly a bit less.

Here's a tip. You need to wear the boots in. This is best done by wearing them in bed, yes, every night between now and the trip should do it.

 

I'm glad triumph don't do jackets in my size xxxobese because they wouldn't half be expensive.
