It looks like the car ran a red light. The bike clearly pulled away when it was green.

Then again, the biker didn't appear to look before he pulled away.

I'd put the fault squarely with the car driver but I'm disappointed the biker didn't check it was clear to cross.

YUp definitely the car jumping the red light is legally in the wrong but you don't get to ride accident free for 35 years by assuming everyone is going to abide by the law or put other road users first.

The car jumped the light and I do not know about anyone else, but that split second before impact is around where I would probably have been checking my mirrors. Unfortunately we do not have several sets of eyes.

Yes the car probably went through a red light but the rider should have been checking left and right and not been so eager to get on the power. Interesting the bike next to him at the lights did not hit the car.

What crispey said! The car driver was a dumb ass but his helmet cam shows he was looking ahead and had discounted that empty inbound lane to his left. Perhaps if he had taken a glance & seen that car and assessed its speed before it travelled 10m+ into that junction it may have been avoidable.Lucky he acquired some ninja skills in good time!

When I started this thread I lifted the link off the triumphrat.net forum, where there were a lot of bikers who have limited observational skills.

You guys are way smarter than many of those over the pond who fail to see that the rider made mistakes.

At the end of the day,no matter who's fault it is if your on a bike your going to come off worst.

There's no substitute for good observation, always best to check :upyeah:

The old adage "Look once, look twice, look three times" works for me. Far better to be aware of what is going on around you and slower pulling away.

At the end of the day the car is in the wrong same as 95% of bike vs car crashes but the ride should of looked before putting down that much power and that would of been a near miss instead of a insurance claim !

For me irrespective of where the law lies, I ride to survive. So yes, the car driver jumped the lights, but you can see the car coming almost before the bike moves off. The car was visible when the biker moved off but he didn't seem to see it.

The question in my mind is this : if the biker had stayed where he was instead of moving off, would the oncoming car have still hit him? He was coming at speed in his right-hand lane but ended up hitting the bike in the opposite set of lanes. The biker was in his rh lane with a lane to his inside left, so would he have still have been hit?

Just looked at it again. I had thought that the car driver was turning right but upon reviewing the video, it looks more like the car was going straight on, which puts a little more responsibility onto the biker. We are all supposed to "proceed when safe to do so.............." after all.
