I suffer from severe Tinnitus, from driving heavy plant machinery years ago, a lot of you are about my age and have probably suffered as well, I know there's no cure but how do you cope with it, it may help other people with this problem.

I did have a hissing and singing in my ears a few years ago when I didn't wear earplugs. That was irritable to the max. But touch wood I am good now. I can only imagine how frustrated you must get with. I don't really have any that I can add to help with it. Hopefully someone hear with more wisdom will assist.
    Regards
    Joe.

I've just about learned to cope with it, but I know how low it can take you, I think a lot of bikers would have this problem and maybe we can help each other.

I just googled it, Tinnitus is damaged hair cells in your cochlea, resulting in a hearing loss at certain frequencies, it's nothing do do with stress or anxiety, but thank's for your help mate.

Tinnitus (TIN-ih-tus) is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 1 in 5 people. Tinnitus isn't a condition itself — it's a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a circulatory system disorder.

Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn't a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with treatment. Treating an identified underlying cause sometimes helps. Other treatments reduce or mask the noise, making tinnitus less noticeable.

    Symptoms
Tinnitus involves the annoying sensation of hearing sound when no external sound is present. Tinnitus symptoms include these types of phantom noises in your ears:

    • Ringing
    • Buzzing
    • Roaring
    • Clicking
    • Hissing
The phantom noise may vary in pitch from a low roar to a high squeal, and you may hear it in one or both ears. In some cases, the sound can be so loud it can interfere with your ability to concentrate or hear actual sound. Tinnitus may be present all the time, or it may come and go.

There are two kinds of tinnitus.

    • Subjective tinnitus is tinnitus only you can hear. This is the most common type of tinnitus. It can be caused by ear problems in your outer, middle or inner ear. It also can be caused by problems with the hearing (auditory) nerves or the part of your brain that interprets nerve signals as sound (auditory pathways).
    • Objective tinnitus is tinnitus your doctor can hear when he or she does an examination. This rare type of tinnitus may be caused by a blood vessel problem, a middle ear bone condition or muscle contractions.

I'm very thankful for your help BB but having this for 15 years you can appreciate my doubt in cures that aren't proven.

    Hi Andy
I was given a white noise hearing aid by the Audiology department, and they made me wear it for 12 months, they said it would make my brain concentrate on the white noise instead of the ringing I had in my ears, after a full year of torture listening to a hissing noise given out by this so called hearing cure, it was just a complete waste of time, the last time I went to the Audiology department I was told bluntly, but truthfully, there's no cure and it will get worse and there's nothing we can do about it, the nurse said if you feel you need to see us , come straight back because there's a high risk of suicides with tinnitus sufferer's, I'm ok when I'm at work because you don't think about it when you are busy, but on a weekend you have to drink to forget it lol.

The CBD OILS is it an oral med or do you put it in your ears please. Our boy was prescribed an oral version. He is autistic. It was supposed to calm him down. But it was about £70 quid.

Just been talking to my better half and she support you views. She has ask me if I could find out what strength you use. She paid £75 for the one she got. She said if she could get it cheaper she would be very interested. And thanks for that.

Thanks for that. We are only using 800mg. Price is immaterial if it works. Tracy is going to check it out. Thanks for every thing.

It’s worth talking to your GP about cognitive behaviour therapy (cbt). It’s a psychological therapy that helps you cope with the emotions and sometimes the avoidance of doing things that cause handicap. Getting stressed and pissed off about the tinnitus seems to make it worse, by altering your thoughts and reactions to it can lead to a reduction in both the frequency and intensity of the tinnitus. It’s not a cure but there is a good chance it will help you cope. CBT is a NICE recommended therapy hence it’s availabity on the NHS. Good luck. Eastbourne Mark

If it wasn't for the fact that I have to drive for a living, I think I'd just smoke dope from a dealer just to stop this ringing noise in my ears, but I don't smoke so I'm out of that option lol.

Having read through this thread I'm seriously thinking about trying this as I have work related hearing loss in both sides and constant tinnitus in the RHS the only variation being the pitch and level of noise, which varies from white noise to a higher pitched whine which has been present for over 10 yrs now.

I have hearing aids but found that they give very little releif, and as for cerrying on a conversation with any background noise present " forget it " LOL.

Now I just need to find somewhere that stocks the stuff and see what the possibilites are.

A lot of people think Tinnitus is just a ringing in the ears, the truth is, like me, my left ear started with a high pitched tone in 2007 and my right ear started with a lower pitched tone this year, so I've got two different ringing noises going on at the same time, no wonder Tinnitus has a high suicide rate, I can only cope with it by keeping busy or listening too music through headphones, or getting drunk, I prefer the latter.

Watching this with interest as I’ve had a really high pitched tinnitus in both ears for ten years or more and age related hearing loss as well, guys, you have my sympathies.
