    I recently bought a 2008 speed triple 1050
it had just had its 6000 mile service so new oil, new coolant, new break fluid etc etc
since having the bike I have put between 1800-2000 miles on it, and no problems but I was checking the oil today and in doing so I found a SMALL amount of this white milky substance on the dipstick with that I ran my finger around the inside of the oil reservoir and just below the threads were you screw the dip stick into, I found abit more of this milky stuff, should I be concerned? or should I just wipe it away and monitor and check it periodically, and If more appears have it checked out by a triumph dealer/mechanic.

I know it is not good to find this sort of thing In your oil reservoir and that it usually means that water is getting in with your oil and when the oil and moisture/water cools you get this milky stuff form around your dipstick and cap, but I have also read that it can be due to the bike being stored outside inn the rain and the cold and condensation and ice form inside and outside of the bike and when you put it away condensation and moisture get in your oil and lines and when the water moisture cools you get this milky white substance form in your reservoir, could this be possible or is it more serious than that?

the bike has been stored in my gargage for about two weeks now so it has been exposed to elements for a while.

any info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    cheers

normally the cylinder head gasket.. someone with more experience could probably advise though.

My Triple has done three times your mileage and is kept in a very cold garage, however I've no sign of this white stuff.
It does sound like a possible gasket problem, but I'm no expert, just a hands on home mechanic.

    Good luck.

I reckon you should clean off as much as you can, ensure that the oil looks normal in terms of quality & quantity, then go for as long a ride as you can to thoroughly warm through the engine and burn, off any humidity in the oil circuit.

If it comes back after that ride, then check the coolant level as it could be a head gasket giving way

Have a compression test of each cylinder undertake, whilst not 100% conclusive of a gasket leak, if their is one between a water coolant pathway and a cylinder the test will show it and in which cylinder any fluid is leaking into. I would expect a loss of coolant if there is a leak between a cylinder and a water pathway.
