Hi JD, to get a European Certificate of Conformity you will need to apply to Triumph Motorcycles, Hinkley, England.

Alternative if you speak to your nearest Triumph dealer they may be able to help you. Just one thing, when and where was your bike first registered? Any chance you can scan the registration document and send me a copy? There's a chance the the info the UK authorities need will be already on your current document.

 

Hello all! I need to import my 2002 Speed Triple to France, Triumph tell me it's too old to get a COC (available from 1997 for most cars I believe, so seems a bit strange unless the rules for bikes are different). Can anyone advise where I go from here? Many thanks

 

Hi Shepshows, are you sure you don't mean a "European Certificate of Conformity" ?

Are you aware that the importation of vehicles into France is now 100% on line?

A CoC will be available from either Triumph UK or Triumph France - if they can't supply you need to get a "Certificate of Type", also from Triumph.

 

You need to write to Triumph with the chassis number and as much detail as possible and they will send one out to you (for a fee - Citroen charge £169 for the privilidge!!!).
You then also need to get the vehicle MOT'd and there is another £100 to get another bit of paper from the Vehicle Standards Agency which says that it now meets UK spec. For this you need to send the MOT along with a statement from the MOT testing station, inculding their testing station number on headed paper with their Registered office address - not their actual address - that says the speedo has been permanently changed to mph and the headlight is full uk spec.
Apply on line for the 'Importing a vehicle from abroad pack' which gives you a step by step (with a couple of steps missing) guide of how to do it.

Oh - and make sure you have done the NOVA declaration.

 

Is that import from or export to?

 

Here's a list of documents you will need to register your bike in France. This is all assuming you live in France ??

1. UK V5 reg doc;

2. Coc (Certificate of Conformity)

3. Pièce d'indentité such as a passport;

4. Justicatif de domicile such as a recnt EDF bill;

5. "Quittus Fiscale" - a document provided by your local Hôtel des Impôts;

6. Completed "Demande de Carte Grise"

7. Bill of sale or purchase invoice, translated in French - I have suitable examples if you need them.

Remember it's all done online now, so all docs will need to be digitised.

Hi Dave, thanks for all the advice. I contacted Hinkley, and they said it's too old for them to supply the CoC. They referred me to Triumph France, but I decided to post here first incase anyone had figured this bit out before. So with your advice I will now email Triumph France and ask them for either a CoC or Certificate of Type and see what happens. I do have the purchase receipt in english, but would rather not have to pay for a certified translation. Good luck - funnily enough, today I collected a French registered Speed Triple from East Sussex and delivered it to Hinckley.

 

This is a good insight and glad to hear the Knowledge. I have brought over my 2018 T-100 from California and have called Triumph many times and left a message but never get a reply, as I am in need of a COC and think a full MSVA inspection seems a little too much for a 2018 Bike that is sold in UK and California. Maybe I am wrong? Any help as how to move forward?

 

Hi Jay, I think you'll find that the Certificate of Conformity is a Europe only device.

It's a document which confirms that a vehicle conforms to european specs and testing.

Hi Jay, I've just spoken to Triumph and eventually got them to agree to create a list of changes required, to turn your California spec bike to a UK. Once they have proof that this has been done by a UK Triumph dealer, they will issue a document to allow the DVLA to register your bike.

I have just emailed them as you instructed and will await your reply. I am sure it will be a headlight adjustment as the speedo is in miles as that is mandatory in US. Thanks for you help in getting the ball rolling!
