I'm considering changing from an open face helmet to a flip front helmet. Do any of you folks have any experience of them? Any information would be helpful.:smile:
Hi the wife and I have new shark evoline3 helmets having do about 2000 miles this yr we love them it has a built in sun visor also can be risen legally with the front up and over out of the way great in hot weather its the only helmet on the market tested as a combo open full face hope this has been of some help any question please ask. Caberg wossit and it works very well. Not as quiet as my shoei and slightly less vision but lovely to lift the front up when doing city centre riding. Also cheap as chips!
Check out Schuberth, I have been using them since 2007. Comfortable, very quiet and they have flip down sun visor. It does depend upon your head shape, everyone seems to suit a particular manufacturer so do check out different makes. Prior I had a Caberg which was also comfy but noisier than the Schuberth
Had a Shoei Multitec and just changed to the Shoei Neotec. Both very good but the Neotec is much more comfortable and far quieter. Neotec also has the internal visor so overall its a great package.
Yo. made change to flip up this year, Caberg, legal to ride open, peak looks posy but really does help with sun, and inside sun visor. Good value for money. If their is a downside, a ltitle bit noisy. Try 'em all first, it really is personal fit as said earlier.
I like flip fronts. I like being able to open it when I'm at a garage for instance. I've had 2 Caberg Justissimos and thought they were very good for the money. I've now got a vastly overpriced Shoei Neotech which is good but at £400 (or thereabouts) it's not nearly as good as the price suggests. It's possibly a little quieter than the Caberg and is certainly better fitting but it's not £250 better imo. The only reason I changed is that I had to start wearing glasses to ride/drive and they were too uncomfortable using the Caberg. The Shoei has a channel that glasses slide neatly along. This is probably grandmothers and eggs but if you wear glasses for riding remember to take them along when trying helmets on. Similarly if you wear earplugs put those in as well and walk around in it for a few minutes. As has been said try as many as you can. A lot of people like Schuberths but I couldn't find one that fitted me. I tried a friend's Shark Evoline and liked it but unfortunately it was only a few months after I bought the Shoei. Good luck!

I have five dealers to visit tomorrow to try out some helmets. I'm hoping that it is going to be a good day out and that I get the helmet that is suitable for me.
Well, I spent most of yesterday and this morning trying on a multitude of flip front helmets. The main problem I have found is that there are no consistent sizes. XL with one helmet could be L with another and vice versa. Prices also seem to fluctuate alarming for similar specifications. At the moment I tempted between helmets made by Nolan and Shark. However I haven't made a final decision yet. So the search goes on.
If you're going to get a flip front make sure there is an internal sun visor. The Nolan I had for a while had an external one which was no use as it was so easily scratched and if you wanted to ride with the front open there was no protection for the eyes. Maybe Nolan have changed their design.

I rather like the Nolan 102. This has an internal sun visor. The XL size was a little tight so the dealer is getting an XXL for me to try.
Are you sure about the visor as I had a 102 with a sun visor on the outside and this shows the outside visor. It was a nice enough helmet but the outside visor was just impractical in my view. Edit: The N103 and N104 both have internal visors so perhaps it was one of those you were looking at.
I will check on that today. I'm sure the guy said it was 102n but it was definately an internal visor.
Just been to the dealer. Helmet was indeed a N104. Salesman said " Helmets are not my area of expertise. I'm not really into motorcycles". I wonder what he is doing in a motorcycle accessory shop?
