my name is Gene, I’m from Allentown, PA. I’m a longtime Honda rider. I had a VTX 1300 for the last 12 years, before that I had a 750 Shadow. Just mad the switch to a 2013 Thunderbird 1600ABS. So far I love everything about the bike except the seat. After having a Mustang seat for 12 years, the stock Triumph seat is torture. Any suggestions?
Hi Gene - Welcome to the forum! I have a 2014 T-Bird Commander and a really tender butt. I don't have any problems with mine. If your riding position is about the same as the other bikes, it would point to the foam or shape of the seat. If not, you could be putting pressure on joints/bones/muscles that just aren't used to it. It might take a little while. You might also check the setting on the rear shock. Other forum members may have swapped out their seats and be able to give you some advice. In general terms, you can have a good motorcycle upholstery shop put better foam on the seat and recover it, or buy a good aftermarket seat like your Mustang. The Commander seat has a slightly different contour and lumbar support. You might be able to fit it to your bike if you can find someone close by to check the fitment. I'll be in Ocean City, MD from 9/12 to 9/18 if you are thinking about going down for Bike Week. I'd be happy to let you check the fit of my seat on your bike. It would only take a few minutes. Good luck.
I went to the dealer today and ordered the long haul comfort touring seat. I’ll let you know the results as soon as it comes in.
ElectrAbigail. I thought you were a Rebel Lady now I hear you on here talking about soft butts and sowing machines. Starting to get disappointed. Ride Free Joe.
I never heard a man complain about the soft butt of a woman and handling a sowing machine... That only provides proof that I am very good at handling machines that you need to be quick and handy with.
ElectrAbigail. Believe me not complaining. Rather have a lady biker than a sowing machine. Butt can be soft suppose it makes up for most of the Triumph seats. My Partner used to be a great biker way back when ladies were very few. We used to go every where together. Even when we went to the south of England show I think 1980 all the bikers stood and clapped her as she rode in she was riding a Triumph t100p. Now she wouldn't think of riding a bike to used to a car. Like you I find my self a solo rider and its boring. Ride Free Joe.
