Did it on my Bonneville just as DD says - not hard but make sure you have the right tools!

Its a fair question, I just find the ride uncomfortable your right I dont have anything other than my flirt with a Street Scramble, but even before I find myself tensing up when the pot holes, doddgy man hole covers and general shitty road surface bites. I have adjusted the stock to position 4 and its better, but I hope there is more improvements to be had. I maybe asking too much, as I did when I went from a Discovery 4 to Volvo. Air suspension, now theres an idea.

I treated my Newchurch (also goes by the name of Bonnie) to a set of TEC gas shocks, progressive springs and a set of preloaders also from TEC. The difference is amazing. Cost less than £200 and transformed the bike.

ps I've named all of my bikes through the years, never had an Edna though ;)

If your thinking TEC then really do your homework because it’s cheap chinese shite that looks bling bling and goes ping! Mine collapsed (posted a subject about it way back). Most have mixed feelings as it’s more show without the go. I’ve only heard good reports from Hagon so it’s up to you.
If you spend around £200 then it should work in harmony with the front forks, if you double that price then the quality will show up the forks and expect to spend money on the front too.

TEC are actually made in Thailand and then imported and completely rebuilt in the UK. I was quite sceptical at first but I wasn’t in a position to pay ridiculous amounts for shocks. I’ll keep an eye on them and report back.

Liked your post, sounds like your a bit like me fall in love with the looks and then spend months wondering if you made the right decision. Although I should no better, I got my bike licence 57 years ago, I recently brought a 2017 T100, sort of a nostalgia buy as I had a speed twin back in 1962. Bike went in for service the other day and I had a Street triple on loan, loved the noise it made and the performance. However getting back on the Bonnie was like sitting in your favourite armchair, remember I am old, and I could actually ride it quicker than the triple. Anyway I am rambling, you have plenty of time, try a scrambler next time.

Don't forget, adding more preload is essentially about raising the ride height to compensate for weight to keep the bikes rake/trail within a design spec. Changing the preload will have a marginal effect on the damping. Set preload to your weight/SAG. Mucking about with preload is not going to make your bike softer or harder to any great effect.

My bike is also called “bike”. Have never understood why people would call a machine or tool by a human name. Maybe they have names for the “lawnmower” and garden “spade” Takes all sorts etc.

You know you are not allowed to call them spades anymore, it should be diggers of non mechanical origin!
