I can attest to that. Back in the late sixties, one summer school holidays down Corby Tube Works, I was working my shift on the tube straightening furnace. "Oh aye", says I "And, er ,,," "Kilt tha' wife wi' an axe". I decided to leave it at that and didn't delve any further. He wasn't much of a conversationalist anyway.
I believe the real nutters go to Peterhead, but the rapists and peados are shared with Dumfries prison. Moved around for their protection. So you know if they've been in Peterhead Thay are mad / bad. Peterhead closed a couple of years ago. I was always led to believe that in itslatter days it housed the worst of Scotland's category A prisoners including violent sex offenders. Auntie Google reckons the SAS were dispatched in 1987 to end the riot there, in what was known as "Scotland's gulag, a prison of no hope."
HMP Grampian as it is now called is bang right next door to the old Peterhead prison, which is now a prison museum. Be worth a visit there after all. I went to the old Crumlin prison in Belfast, one of the best visits I have ever done, very interesting. Walk along the tunnel to the courthouse was eerie.
