The mind does odd things when faced with what to do with itself on a motorway. Often mine drifts towards twins I used to work with, a large plastic ground sheet and some warm chocolate sauce but perhaps that's another thread. Today I was trying to work out how many bikes I'd owned over the last 40 years and what they were. After an hour on the M25 I was a bit disappointed to realise I'd had 11 Hondas and some of them twice (mostly driven by the economic needs of whatever time I bought and sold them) PC50 2 x CB125 2 x CD175 CB400F 2 x CX500 CB750K2 VFR750 CBR1000 the next most owned make was Guzzi with 6 examples Spada I Cali I Cali III Cali 1100i Cali EV Mille then 3 BMWs R100RT R100GS R1150GS 2 Triumphs Tiger 1050 America 2 Suzukis (this was probably my lowest point financially :wink GN400 GS400 A Norton Dominator 99 and last (and most definitely least ) Cossack Ural Best bike: At the time it was my 1150GS. A brilliant machine which I dropped at a standstill a number of times as it was far too tall for me. These days I find the America much more to my taste. Worst bike: The Urinal, the biggest heap of shite ever. What possessed me to buy it I have no idea Longest ownership: 10 years and 60,000 miles on the GS Shortest : VFR750 - 2 months and 2500 miles - I bought it just before a trip to South of France and I got rid of it as soon as I got back. Possibly the most overrated bike ever. Your turn
'TWO' twins ? or just twins ?:biggrin: I don't have time right now to list all the bikes i've owned over the 41 years i've been riding, i doubt i could remember them all.... I am a serial swapper, my Mrs reckons i have a serious problem where getting new bikes is concerned I'm not as bad these days, but i still like a deal :upyeah: Back in the day, i would think nothing of buying a bike, using it for a week, then moving on to another...i have owned literally hundreds. I wish i had kept some of them now, as i've had stuff that is worth good money these days. My weakness was (and still is) oldskool Suzuki's, i have lost count (literally) of the number of GSXR's and Bandits i had, as well as GSX1100 EFE's... I haven't had that many Brit bikes though, a C15, 3 Bantams - 1 D7, and 2 D14 Bushmans, an Arial Leader fieldbike !!! a 955i speedtriple, and a Tigercub, and now my Bonnie. I have tried my hand at motocross, so had a few racebikes, supermoto, trials, moped racing, and drag raced for about 10 consecutive years. Bikes have been the biggest part of my life, and i hope they always will :upyeah:
Lost count! lots & lots of scooters! ( they do have a place) bike wise only remember the good ones, like Tiger 1050, Honda CB1000R, ZZR1100, Z750, lots MZ250 2 strokes Oh & a Honda Innova! was errrrrrr interesting!
To be honest, i don't really bother about that. Some of them i made money on, a lot of them i lost money on...it's never been about the money, if i see a bike i want, i get it, if i don;t have the money i do without it, and look for something else within my budget. I've never been in a position where i could afford a brand new bike, i've always had second hand. If money were no object, i would buy a 1050 Tiger, but i will never be in that position. I'm more than happy with my Bonneville at the moment, but i may move my ZRX1100 on in the near future.

Yep, that's me. The Bandit has gone now (though I still drop into that forum a bit). Think my future on bikes is with the Bonneville, though, for a number of reasons. (Not least because my wife much prefers the pillion position, and she thinks the Bonnie is "really attractive" !!)
I've been very similar, never really bought new other than two in 35+years. Always wanted something unusual although it needed to be cheap as that was just as much the fun. Blimey, a few bikes there. Tigcraft: I'm intrigued by the number of small (250 and smaller) bikes you've had. Were they early on or driven by financial issues? I had a 125 and a 175 as my first bikes but was forced in later years to revisit the small bike world as my money ran out! Lodekka: a CZ175? I knew a few people with them but I'm not sure I ever saw one on the road
The small ones were in and amongst other ones and it wasn't about money but just shear fun. People forget that it's the small ones that carry more memories and fun as they're not as intimidating to push to limits. But on the whole I've found that unlike cars that can multitask bikes seem only good at certain types of ride.
Hi Folkbloke, The Bantams in the 60s were for Schoolboy Scrambling all complying with the 125cc limit at the time. The D7 trials bike I built myself and was my first road bike as well as being used for trials. I was given the CZ in 1965 but could not adapt it for Schoolboy Scrambling plus it was over the 'cc' limit so it was moved on. The Clipper was given to me as a non-runner and was put right and moved on. The trials outfit was built for winter keep fit purposes but I could not get on with 'three wheels' so that was sold. At the same time I first used the Fanny B and then for two seasons the Bultaco Metisse for scrambling, my first love. The Honda C200, and then the T21 were my road bikes at this time and the choice of road bike was based on monies available at the time, as has been the case since. Working part time for a motorcycle dealer during the late 60s and early 70s I also had the chance to ride all types of bikes, mopeds and scooters with the bikes ranging from a 50cc Itom road registered racer to a Vincent twin and included in this was a 650 Triumph Wasp sidecar outfit that was used for enduros which I did eventually get to grips with. Now I am happy with the two Triumphs I have with the 50 year gap between them.
