I would say you only need three or four to make it a goer. Anything more is a bonus. Even if it's not a GMU it can still happen.

I agree with that and tbh it's easier sorting accom when there's smaller numbers.

However imo it's loads more fun when there's a 'gaggle' of bikers !!!

Ade I agree, I’m not suggesting that an international trip should replace the UK event. If folk want to do both then why not.

I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread it's too early for me to commit to anything, is there a particular month you would recommend Dave? Ade makes a good point about keeping it a few months away from the UK GMU ,although if the UK GMU were to be held in Scotland next year it would probably be held in May,so July August,Sept sounds good for France?

Hi Dougie, from the viewpoint of reasonably guaranttee-ing good to great weather, mid June to Mid sept would normally be the optimum period.

All depends Ade on who is going where. I'd go to France in early July and the GMU in late July and Spain in September if I was fit and able. In fact if I was only doing the GMU and France I might prefer them both to be in July when the weather is potentially warmer.

Isn't France closed for annual holidays in August? Or have things changed a bit since the 1970s? Or am I having memory failure - again?:worried:

Long days out a comfortable bed would be appreciated come evening, and I'd be happier knowing there was a locked door between us and not just a zip

Ah .... so I was at least half right!!

I blame SWMBO #1 - a French language student and subsequently a teacher thereof.
Having said all that, France is pretty quiet even when it's busy!:)
