I was enjoying a Sunday evening blast in beautiful Weardale when I hit a pheasant full in the face. I was doing about 70 so it was a bit hairy to say the least. The bird flew up out of the verge and hit the chin and visor of my helmet. I managed to keep it upright and came to a stop about 40 yards down the road. Needless to say I was a bit shocked, the visor had broken and cut my lip, the bird was laid in the road making the odd movement, but had disappeared the next time I looked. I got my shit together and went home. My Schuberth S2 helmet had a coupe very small cracks in the chin bar so I’m looking for a new one.

Pleased to hear you're okay mate. Imagine if it had been an open face helmet - doesn't bare thinking about.

We had a customer in yesterday to collect the screen and cockpit for his Tiger Sport that had been cracked by a full on with a pigeon.

Bad luck, a fat lip and broken helmet and you didn’t even get the benefit of a game pie out if it!

I know someone that had an argument with a Roe Deer . Now that did end up in the pot!

Glad your'e ok, save for a new lid and a fat lip. Had a couple of close shaves myself yesterday, first was a suicidal sheep on the top of the North Yorkshire moors heading down to Hutton le Hole and the second was very similar to your incident. I was at about 70 running between Goole and Crowle and a femail pheasant honed into view at helmet height, bugger was disguised against the straw coloured field behind it and I just managed to duck out of the way in time. I've run into a sheep many years ago and just managed to stay on. Hitting wild life that big is no joke.

Do you why the sheep was going to Hutton le Hole? Maybe it was keen to visit the Ryedale Folk Museum?

    :p

A161 from Crowle to the Goole side of Eastoft now has a 50mph limit on it. Bastids!!
Not unknown for there to be much police activity around there at weekends.

Got myself a Shoei GT Air helmet as a replacement and I’m very impressed. It’s far quieter than my Schuberth which has surprised me.
