One tooth smaller on the front is always the first option

 

Depend on whats fitted to the front to start with, going down one at the front could mean the chain running on the swingarm.

To check against your Model & VIN number to be sure, are you the first owner ? if not it may not be std anyway, so you may need to check by manually counting the teeth.

2017 Speed S and R OEM gearing is 18F and 43 rear.
Went with a 45t rear sprocket on mine, same as on my 2017 Tiger Sport.
Much better in slow tight corners/ hairpins

 

On other litre bikes I've always dropped a front tooth as I don't need to do 160 so prefer the torque benifits of the lower gearing. More pull out of the corners etc. My last Honda cb1000r was definitely improved for it. I've only done 800 miles on my new rs yet so to soon to decide as it pulls well off the bends so we will see

Correct, but 20 quid on the front does the same job, cheaper, quicker, very simple job. On one of my other bikes I dropped 1 tooth on the front and 2 up on the rear. It all depends on what you are looking for. Over the last 30 years of owning all sorts of bikes changing the gearing for the type of riding you do and the kind of bike you want is now the norm. On my track day fireblade you change the sprockets to match the track, the road you have to consider revs at your regular road speeds compared to if you do lower the gearing you are running higher revs for the same speed. Not to everyone's liking. The speed rs pulls well in second and third out of corners so I might change the front for a week to back to back test if it's worth it. Always an interesting discussion.

 

True you are ok if you have done few miles or you will need to add a new chain, hooked teeth are very rare unless badly maintained or high milage new is best but 1000 miles is nothing so you can swap a sprocket no problem

 

Hi with the later bikes does changing the gearing affect the TC or ABS or Speedo ? I was thinking of lowering on my 2018RS but thought it might cause problems ?

Tc or abs no, but on my blade I used a speedo healer, I need to look into the rs

 

The 2018 RS is 17 front 44 rear . Ive added 2 teeth on the rear today but not ridden it yet . I will let you know if there are any issues .

 

My speed RS has the same info , but is wrong !
