Unfortunately the attitiude you experienced is not uncommon among triumph dealers, I've had to complain twice in the last two months about poor service and attitude but triumph don't seem to give toss.
I was looking at reviews of the bobber on YouTube, I have no idea why because when I sat on one I looked like a gorilla on kids bike! Anyway, the MCN long term review, if 3 months can be called long term, mentions corrosion. Admittedly the bike is stored outside under a cover rather than garaged but it does show how fragile the finish is. As others have said, it's not just Triumph, other forums have similar complaints about most manufacturers.
I didn't take any chances with the new speedmaster, I sprayed the whole thing with ACF50, and as it happens the sales manager also recommend that I spray it with a moisture repellent! Says a lot doesn't it..
I’ve just traded a 7 month old T120. I’d ridden it through the winter and spent more time cleaning it than riding it. Despite my best efforts including liberal applications of ACF and Waxoyl, the spoke nipples and the shockers were corroding. Another winter and the bike would have been a wreck. The dealers response was that Triumph will entertain no warranty claims for corrosion!! Life is too short. Such a shame as it was a great bike to ride.
That doesn't sound like the triumph warranty is much cop then. I had a Honda vtx1300 that suffered corrosion on all the spokes of both wheels within a year but Honda replaced them under warranty. There is a lesson to be learned here for triumph, if what the dealer is telling you is true, I would be contacting triumph direct if I were you to find out.
The thing is, does it really matter if you get a bit of corrosion. Its a bike meant to be ridden whatever! Does it take away the enjoyment of motorcycle riding? Why not just ride the bike, and stop worrying about cosseting the bike? Seems a lot of people want to keep it in showroom condition ..... why? IMHO just ride the "feckin" thing. INCOMING!
I couldn't agree more! Does all this corrosion hamper the performance of the bike? I can feel for ya'll having so much wet weather, but that is just something you have to live with. My 06 Scrambler is not rusted and still runs like a charm. It is down on power, in my opinion, but that's just the way it is. I will never go back to riding a 800lb Chrome Harley Davidson. Too much time polishing and not enough time riding! I do enjoy riding my bike without all the fuss over looks.
What do you mean, no good looking at it?? Visual stimulation therapy! I’m in a grumpy mood having to get in the car to drive umpteen miles to work. Open the garage door, look at Tracey and Doris, no favourites mind, and think “ I’m going to be riding you soon!” And I set off a happier man!
Hi mate, late to this one. I bought a new Street scrambler in October 2017 missed the £500 accessory offer by one day & didn’t receive it, handed the bike back in utter disgust in late feb. The bike is, well, shite. May as well start from the beginning, to the eye it’s a stunning motorcycle, stunning although half of the bodywork is well hidden cheap plastic, very cheap plastic. The heated grips have four settings, off, are they on, they might be on, lukewarm. Those cost £180. As you say, the spokes rust immediately, I had not even taken it out (leg op) and they were rusty. Oil leak number 1, Once out the severe lack of power is noticeable the second you leave town, I genuinely could not overtake a 54 plate clio driven by a texting driver at 70mph, for a supposed 900cc engine that’s a joke, at 7000 - 8000 revs the bike just dies so it is obviously limited. I have my works van limited to 70mph and when your momentum is up, flying through the 60s, the moment you hit 70mph there’s a slight pull back as the generated momentum is killed...it’s the exact feeling on the street scrambler. Oil leak number 2 All the bolts were rusty. ALL the bolts, from the silver ones that came with the £120 Matt black flyscreen (yes silver bolts with a specifically ordered & expensive Matt black screen) to the ones on the plastic number board monstrosity. Oil leak number 3 Handed the keys back and orders a Street triple rs after a fun test ride. Lost my £2k deposit, an expensive lesson learned. The virtually the same price as he Street scrambler have a motorcycle that’s built better with led lights, quick shifter, digital tft screen, ohlins suspension and an engine that makes me smile. Would I recommend to anyone to buy a Street scrambler? I wouldn’t even encourage anyone to test ride one
I totally agree, it’s the out sourcing that’s the problem I my eyes, what about doing it in this country ?
Cheap bike sold overpriced! Sorry to say I will not be giving Triumph any more of my cash for a new bike. I've bought three new, not another! I like mt 2012 Bonneville Se........ but unfortunately we all look at this brand through rose tinted glasses! People think Triumph are a premium brand, in reality the are just overpriced!
I have to say that this 2018 speedmaster is the first triumph I've ever had, mainly because of poor build quality of other models I've seen; triumph rocket leaking oil in the dealers. But compared to others I've owned, honda, Kawasaki, suzuki, this is better build quality than any of them. All manufacturers outsource, even Honda with 1.6m bikes a year, but at least triumph are bringing most main manufacturing back in house with their new plants in Thailand. I know most of us would prefer it all built here but it's unrealistic in a global economy and even in the 60's they were outsourcing and one of the main reasons triumph failed in the past was poor quality of their own home produced product. Buying in brake and suspension parts from world leaders in the respective industries isn't a bad thing, but I agree the price is too high, same as most European and American bikes.
