OK so just bought a 1973 Triumph TR6P Trophy. Its 80% complete and needs finishing off. Spent its time in the Police force in Ireland. It has back mudguards, black "SLAB" tank, to take the radio telephone and black frame. Has anyone got access to any pictures showing a similar completed bike, need to make sure that the colours are correct. Thanks.
Hi Dozers Dad, thanks for the pictures, will need some more help from other people though, I am attaching pictures of what I have.
The only thing i could think of is the GARDA have an historic page and info might be had from contacting them, there is very little info on Police bikes :-( https://www.garda.ie/en/About-Us/Our-History/
HELP....OK Bought the Triumph Trophy, the engine has been rebuilt, new pistons, big and small ends etc. Took the head off to check... and found 2 cracks on the exhaust ports. Someone has gone to a lot of trouble rebuilding the engine, can I use the head as it is or should I get another one?? SEE PICTURES
I agree with Dilligaf, however, I had a similar situation on a boat engine that I repaired. My father and brother tried to do a repair while on vacation, and they cracked the head - never heard of a torque wrench! The new part was unbelievably expensive and also hard to get. They called me, and I took it to a GOOD machine shop. They cut out the material around the crack, filled it with a weld, and then machined the surface back to it's original height. In my case, I got lucky and it worked. It was also about 1/4 of the cost of the new part. It might be possible to do the same here, but there is no guarantee it will work. Also, I don't know what the cost comparison will look like for your part. Regardless, it might be wort a trip to a good machine shop to see if they think they could do it.
