Wasn't that the Coventry Climax engine later used by Cooper and Lotus?
I suppose all engines by definition are stationary in their natural state! :p

Talking of stationery engines, I just love this one.

Btw, if you don't know of Jay Leno's garage, check it out on youtube, Jay has a fantastic collection of classic bikes and cars, and is particularly fond of early Bonnies. And he really knows his stuff, his channel is a real education.

I know Rich, I cannot believe the amount of stuff he has in that garage. Great range - the guy has impeccable taste! I would hate to have to pay his insurance bill though - bet he' s not with Bennett's multi bike policy!

I think that's the point Steve...Interesting problems to solve. Engineers look like us...but are different. Thank goodness :). An old neighbour of mine was an engineer (who made his own metal working lathe  ). As he was retired, he took up wood turning but found the vibrations of the wood turning machine to be too imprecise for him; so he built his own lathe incorporating an old Morris 8 shock absorber that he had reconditioned himself. I'm really looking forward to the attempt and seeing how he will overcome the problems alluded to on here and probably many more. My feeling is that this will be over a considerable period of time. He already works most week-ends just keeping up with his order book so I'm not holding my breath. I'll send my missus over..She's got a PHD in Nagging! :D

Oh.. by the way the actual engine is not that big. It looks bigger than it is because it's on a wheeled trolley & its got a massive open water trough on it. It is heavy though... yes definitely heavy... could be an honorary Harley except the technology is way in advance of them...o_O

Yes you're right - I hope the problems don't overcome the project though. I guess there will be big issues such as weight to support the engine in the frame, the damping of the vibration and the transfer of power to the rear wheel. Makes my head spin! Hope he does find the time to do it though. :)

Yeah the Lister probably isn't the smallest - I'm sure they have featured a smaller one but any of them will be heavy. Don't Harleys run on coal or wood so you could be half way there!
