Maybe it's just me then. But I find it interesting to know why the poster finds the track interesting on their soundtrack. Gives me a reason to explore the song. If they can't be bothered to write a few words then I can't be bothered to check it out.

Oh it does. I introduced them on stage at Requels Discotheque in Basildon back in my DJ days.
The bloke in the group was the main man. He was strict. The two girls jumped when he spoke .we had drinks after in the cocktail bar . The two girls were really nice but i didnt like him .good songs though. New york city girl being another big hit for them . its funny jez . i have always said music is time travel. You hear a song and it takes you back to a time in your life. .

Then the track I’d play (just nowhere near this quality) if I got roped into a jam night... it’s very high on my favourites list and has been since the late 80s

Agree with you Rich, but there are times when the song is just one you like and there is no particular story behind it

Talking of Basildon, well Essex anyway, and awards, a pal of mine, Michael Blakley who lived round the corner from us in Rush Green (Romford/Dagenham) in the mid-70s was at the time the manager of the Rubettes and part time taxi driver (no money in pop music back then). Michael is also the brother of Alan Blakley of the Tremeloes and Michael used to play drums in the Tremeloes touring band.

So one evening over dinner at their place Michael told us the story of his gold disc. Jeff Christie had written 'Yellow River' for the Tremeloes who recorded it but never released it. When Jeff asked if he could have it back they gave him the full band recording.. So Jeff dubbed his voice over the backing track and released it as Christie. Next thing it's a top twenty hit and Jeff needs a backing band to promote the single. So Alan Blakley suggests Jeff recruit Michael and his mate (The Epics) to mime to the Tremeloes band's backing track on TOTP.

Turns out Michael had a five gold/silver discs from his time with Christie, all gathering dust in the loft somewhere. So I nagged him till his wife Elaine looked them out and hung them on the wall up the staircase of their modest town house.

    True story,
I biker friend of mine had a blind date with Alison many moons ago. He turned up at a party where he was to met her. He said that she was dressed like a clown and thought better of it so he chatted to her for a while and then made his excuses.
he was shocked when he see her on top of the pops with Vince Clarke singing Only You as Yazoo.:D

I worked at Ford with one of Alison Moyet's Basildon school mates. I remember a bunch of us were talking over lunch about TOTP and Yazoo from the previous night and no doubt making some cutting remarks about her weight, when Gillian said something like 'oh that's my friend Alf, she was always singing in bands'. I guess we felt duly embarrassed. And yes, Alf can belt out a song for sure. I've got a few of her albums on vinyl. I'll have to dig them out and reminisce.

Every rock collection should include a copy of SAHB's 'Framed'. And this Hammer Song always takes me back 30 years to picking up my son and his mates from cubs in my Espace. They'd always insist I fast forward to this song. When (if) you get to 2:33 think of Dumb and Dumber headbanging in the car to Bohemian Rhapsody. Now imagine my car bouncing to six eight and nine year olds suddenly going mental in synchronicity.

The greatest rock 'n roll guitarist and singer you've probably never heard of, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Do yourself a favour, watch this remarkably talented lady.

Here's a tenuous connection to the Alison Moyet anecdote above - that conversation took place one Friday in the staff canteen at Ford European HQ in Brentwood, and here is a Brentwood girl fronting one of my favourite prog-rock bands, Sonja Kristina of Curved Air. I used to quite fancy Sonja.

Just to bring things down a rung, as I'm up in Scotland at the moment I was reading the Oban Times earlier. There was mention of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. As I like rock music and also the sound of bagpipes I thought I'd look them up on Youtube. As I listened to this track I thought it would be nice to see them live once I had consumed some of that delicious scottish golden malty imbibing fluid.

Came across this tonight as I was sat here sipping my cheap Lidl single malt whisky. I've never listened to Motorhead though I listened to Hawkwind a lot in the early 70's not linking Lemmy with Hawkwind.

Nice one Rich, when I've got time I'll watch the whole video:cool:She was Rock"n" Roll before it had been invented & influenced so many of the 50s rockers,I've only heard of her because I'm a big early Rock "N" Roll fan, early Elvis in Particular..
