Does anyone know what Teresa May is on about? Lets face it after the depth of shit the country is in thanks to Cameron and Osbourne she hasn't got a clue how to sort it out. Re brexit personally she needs to start toughening up and if necessary tell the EU that we'll walk away now and pay them nothing. 21 months obeying their rules,Court of human rights plus paying them without having a vote MY ARSE! as Ricki Tomlinson would say. Cheers, Pete.
Alas, so many proprietary big names have no connections to the original manufacturers, AJS, Matchless for 2 examples, long lost names bought up and stuck on Chinese bikes. Same with any thing now Jez, look at Stanley!
A 240v electric drill. Guess how long it is designed to run for? 5 Hours !!! 5 feckin hours , they recon you will use it less than 30 minutes a year, so therefore it will last 10 years and you'll happily buy a new one. If you actually use a drill to work, this is around 2 months. Used to go through them at a frightening rate when I was laying floors.
That sounds about right, bought a new Bosch one in April, chuck broke september! Just chucked in the bin and bought cheapo from Lidl, done more work including drilling concrete and still going strong FOR 1/2 THE PRICE! I've got 2 B&D's from the 70's I still use if I need 2 drill bits for a job, although not as powerful, but still used! 1 of them was used for more than 5 hours as I replaced the brush's!
Even the non chinky owned companies have manufacturing plants in the PRC. DeWalt (or default as we call them) Made in PRC Makita (MilkEater) My original 12v SDS drill was made in Japan and lasted 12 years before I went 18v brush-less, now made in PRC. Milwaukee, my weapon of choice, used to be USA, now PRC. None of the above are crap, just not made the same. Made to a price and thrown away earlier!
Had a metabo once, company not mine, that was a nice bit of kit, took loads of abuse. But you'll probably find it's now China made and down to a price same as the rest of the crap. I had one of the first B&D battery drills, the battery packs actually looked like batteries stacked up(and they were), lasted me years, loads of abuse. Eventually pack went and tried to re-battery, but never got it to work successfully. Replacement Bosch - CPOS !!! Won't hold a charge for a day. Makita better, but batteries are always flat when you go to use, have one constantly on charge and just swap it over when I come to use. Old Makita's used to hold charge for weeks when not using.
My 18v Hitachi drill came with 2 battery packs, thats done some work over the last 4 years, still current at Scewfix.
