Still waiting to see if Dan managed to get his bike starting...

I decided to sit on the repairs for mine for now. I have neither the gear nor the will to ride in the winter [insert sunday rider taunt here] and I fixing my bike now would simply be fixing it to leave it parked another month. F' it.

So I won't be coming around to taunt the ginger Brother with a Running Bonnie.

Lots of places to peg his kilt down though, you could be onto something here DD. I think there’s a wee compartment in the cowl for the sporran too

Right, you chaps look like you've had fun here :p

Apologies for radio silence, work and life got in the way of biking and banter. Had a few free dry weekend days (only a few) and FINALLY managed to track down what I believe to be the source of my woes. Turns out the crimp connector for the main grounding point has corroded right of the cable! Don't know if you've tried to get in under a Bonneville to get at the requisite bolt without a bike lift but it was a bloody farce! Now to get a new connector and see if this solves my problems.

And make sure there's solder in there, crimp only will leave you sat at the side of the B123 at 5:30 on a Sunday night in the rain!!!!! :p

Length wise I'm not sure, not fished it out yet, can't be hugely long. Within reason I guess that it wouldn't matter if a replacement was a little too long as I could find space for extra under the seat etc. It is an M8 stud at the engine casing end (obviously smaller at the order end if it's going straight onto the battery). If you have one that would fit that'd be awesome.

    Round your way!
I've often thought as well, but if done properly, with the proper crimp tool, it is as strong as soldered joint. Most sparks will tell you that it is not recommended to solder load carrying cables anyway, doesn't matter on the earth in this case!

Earth link on a bike is hardly load carrying. With all the crud it will get, a crappy crimped wire is not going to do well.
The industrial crimped earth straps DD has, are a different matter from what you can do with those crimping tools you can buy.
If I do use crimps, I always solder just to be sure. Prefer the japanese bike connectors, soldered on.
