I have, in the dim and somewhat distant past, owned a Triumph 2000 manual with overdrive, a Triumph 2000 automatic and a Triumph Acclaim (which was cheating a bit 'cos it was mostly a Honda!). I have also owned four Triumph motorcycles - one of which I still have - but that is not important right now!
Okay, bear with me for a serious moment. Increasingly over the years the Romans relied on conquered (or ally) tribes to supplement the citizen army, especially with specialists like archers, cavalry and slingers, so that by the time they occupied our Fair Isles, some 50-60% were typically non-Italian, more so in the legions raised outside Italy. Of the four legions Claudius brought over, Hispana was raised in Hispania and Gemina was originally raised in Gaul. The other two may originally have been raised in Italy, but they fought all over the place so probably had been supplemented with quite a few conquered and ally locals. It might very well be that 'Romans' interbred with Brits, but not necessarily would it be Italian-Romans. Okay, back to the piss taking.
No, its actually the battle cry of the CESMB's - Ron, Ron away !!!! Or something very similar ????? Maybe, it was that 'darn sarf', so I do have trouble translating ???
