Actually it is because our beer is palatable. Any Aussie or American beer tastes pretty disgusting. Most German and Continental beer (also slow, cold fermented hence ‘lager’ - kept) is only marginally better. Chilling it anaesthetises your taste buds as much as, allegedly, making it more refreshing.
You would never drink Bud unless it was cold!

Years ago before you could get Budwiser officially in the U,K, my uncle was a loader of USAF Galaxies at Mildenhall, thats the first time I tasted Bud, although I preferred another popular beer with the 'yanks', Schltz, any one tried that?
Cant seem to be able to get it here now.

The thing about taste is it's individual.

I went on a distillery tour years ago, can't remember which one. A yank asked should you drink single malts by themselves or is it OK to add ice or water? The wee lassie guide's answer was brilliant - do you like it with water? Well that's the way to drink it then.

Other than Stella, I'll drink pretty much anything. I like coors, Miller or bud or a couple of portuguese beers are favourite at the moment Super Bock or Sagres (both in Tesco). Beer is good, a cold one is better.

Being 1/2 Irish all other beers pale (ale) into insignificance when compared to a pint of Guinness in Dublin.
I used to think UK Guinness was the real stuff until l 1st ever took the Holyhead to Dublin ferry & had a few pints on the trip over....completely different, & trying to get a decent pint of Guinness in the USA is like trying to find a virgin in Wigan Palais on a Friday night!!! Used to think that was bullshit about Guinness better in Ireland, till I toured in 2016. It really is better. Creamier, smoother and no dirty penny after-taste. :D

Trouble is eu regs mean that Guinness now has to be kept below a certain temp so all that lovely taste had been reduced to nothing due to the cold temp, and it takes less time to pour so there is no need to pre pour pints and leave them standing which is un-hygienic!

The true test came when I got pissed off with my sons raiding my beer box and leaving me with none, so before Xmas I bought a box of bud and put that in there, it’s still there!!

Well ice suppresses taste.....but most people don’t realise ‘ordinary’ malts are watered down when bottled. You can further top up the water content to suit personal taste. If you want everything in the bottle to have gone through the still then buy ‘cask strength’ and pay accordingly more.

My current favourites are : Leffe blonde Magnum bottle; Bombardier 500ml bottle.

Over here the Leffe costs about 2€ and is 6.6%; Bombardier is about the same price but 5.2%

When I lived in that neck of the woods my nose drew me to a cask conditioned Wadworth 6X born in Devizes.

Ah 6X..... used to cycle (pedal power) to a pub near me out in the country, and have several pints. Lovely ale, not seen in these parts for a long while!

What I drink depends on where I am, in a pub it will be a pint of Doombar or similar as long as I am being chauffeured or walking, however our local cinema does a cracking range of ciders by a local producer, Saxbys. A good film and a pint of Rhubarb cider makes for a cracking end to a Sunday.
