Leaking Tec Exhaust

Fitted a TEC 2 into 1 exhaust on my mates Bonneville today. No matter what we do, can feel it blowing where the can pushes onto the down-pipes. Seems quality fit is not one of its selling points!
Pretty sure this will fail an MoT.

Do I fill the joint with some sort of compound, like Permatex??
Or (preferably) drill & slit the pipe and put a Mikalor hose clamp around it and clamp up!

Maybe do both

 

Cheers guys, got some HT silicone I bought when installed the log burner, will give that a go. Must admit the TEC is a poor design relying on a good fit to achieve a leak free installation. The fit is loose to say the least! Would have been better to have a spring retainer like most exhausts. But as it is built to a price..... you get what you get. "Buy cheap .....Buy twice"

This TEC exhaust really is a PoS!

Going to make some slits in the end can and use a clamp!
My mate had the chance to by an "Arrow" system for £290 brand new off eBay............ but decided to save £60 and bought this PoS instead..... grrrrrrr!

 

My mate who owns the bike and exhaust spoke to TEC. Told that they hadn't had that issue before and that it should not fail MoT anyway.

The cure will have to be slit the joiner pipe and fit a SS clamp!

 

No mate it is not! To be honest somewhat committed to getting this sorted as the original exhausts have been removed, and I'm not putting them back, would involve too much sodding about!
I am not impressed with the quality of the TEC exhaust, the down pipes are fabricated from several parts, and the welding is atrocious (somewhat akin to a semi trained monkey let loose with a MIG welder). The tolerances are way too sloppy for a motorcycle exhaust. Would get away with it on a car, as installation uses clamps and sealant (also hidden).
As I said, wish I had never offered to help fit it, way too bad a piece of kit!

 

Hi BigLad, as I said it fits the bike, but it leaks like a sieve!
Quality and finish is atrocious though!
Bought a Mikalor heavy duty hose clamp this afternoon. Should be able to clamp it down as the construction of the can is not very thick.
TBH having to do this on a new pipe is not very good.

Yes, you can send a link . But as I said, this is not my bike or exhaust. I am only the helper / fitter.
TBH if I had opened the box and seen the quality and finish, I would have sent it back for a refund. I was in engineering in another life, and could have welded the down-pipes to a better standard even now!
Probably too late to get any support from TEC now, as I have bought a clamp and intend to make a proper fixing from can to pipes..... as it should be from the factory? How TEC think this method of assembly will pass an MoT is beyond me! Rant over...... where is that clamp and grinder!

Not to worry mate, will slice the end can (see below) with a 0.8mm cutting disc then clamp it tight tomorrow.

 

Finished fitting my mates TEC (Tatty Exhaust Construction). Problem sorted (or bodged). Can has been slit at slip on end, sealant and clamp. The whole experience has been a messy one. Personally I would not recommend this product. Others have had better positive experiences. This product supplied is very low quality, rough machining and poor welding. Wafer thin metal, 2 out of 10 tops!

Add the cost of the bits below and time spent sorting it, ......go Arrow!
