Bike Oil For Audi Tt?

I must admit that I agree wholeheartedly SmilinJack - get the right oil for each application.

 

The key thing is the API or JASO spec quite as much as the SAE viscosity. There is a huge marketing effort to con us into buying premium brands at premium prices wherein lie premium profits.....including some cute OEM tricks to have oils ‘qualified’ to be put in their vehicles.

The spec for bike oils uses a now obsolete car standard not least because cars don’t use wet clutches and most have separate gearboxes where some additives eat yellow metal!
Any oil will get you home - the savings however aren’t worth the unknown risk.

Suffice to say something like Triple QX Fully Synthetic meets all the standards, is not heavily promoted and would appear to be Shell Helix Ultra by another name.......and price. They make it in bulk and can’t sell all their product at premium prices.

Unfortunately we bikers pay premium prices because we are too small a market and love our bikes too much to skimp. However, most of us change our oil far more than our mileage really warrants....
