Now I should declare an interest here as I sell Shoei helmets.

Like figwold I've also got a Shoei JO open face, which we bought around the same time, and to be honest I only bought it for the looks to go with my Bonnie. Painful when it rains if you're doing anything above a crawling speed. Not so clever either at high speeds in any conditions no matter how much you pad out the shell. So if you want cool looks for a Summer-day's bimble and the annual Distinguished Gentleman's Ride it's a great helmet - for the other 360 days of the year I'd recommend the reassurance of full face security.

I have an AGV Hi Jack

No problems with riding at speed but that said it's not something I do very often when wearing it. As Rich said, it was perfect for the DGR :)

I also have a Shark Evo with the chin bar that goes all the the way over the back, giving full face or open. However, the Shark is heavy compared to the AGV, in fact it's heavy compared to the Shoei Neotech flip front I also have.Of the three helmets I have the Shoei is by far the best. It's the most comfortable and the quietest. Not my first Shoei, they have been my preferred helmet for a very long time.

I remember my daily commute to work as an apprentice, 15 miles each way no matter what the weather and it was like riding into bullets rain / hail / snow. Riding gear was a "waterproof" coat and jeans and lightweight "waterproof trousers" and having to get changed before I could start work ( always carrying clean dry gear) stuffing newspaper down inside jacket to try to keep dry / warm.

Rose tinted memories are wonderfull ..................... arriving home and dunking the hands in cold water to warm them up to where I could feel the pain of thawing out, and paying the price for it now !!

If it's hot and sunny I just wear wrap round shades but I have learnt over the years that certain flying insects feel like getting hit by a brick if I ride too fast! I don't often wear the open face in winter but on the rare occasions I do I have one of those tube things, they stay in place much better than a scarf.
As for riding in the rain and real cold weather I did this when I was young and my old chop was my only transport but these days I'd hate to feel that the guy who fitted the windscreen wipers and heater on my car had wasted his time ;):D

Dave, I think your lucky because of where you live these days. I would possibly were open too if I lived near you but the question is would you wear open if you lived back in the uk for every ride?
