If you're still travelling at 11pm at night, you'll have missed the Harwich ferry! ;)
Also you would save at least one overnight stop with an overnight ferry, so the prices aren't that much different when you take that into account, probably about £20-30 in the Chunnel's favour.

It's all down to budget and personal preferences really.
I prefer a more leisurely start to a holiday and, having tried a few different options, the overnight ferry is a good one for me.

    1. I have 3 spare rooms at my gaff for those coming down to Dover or Chunnel. Only an hour away. If it helps. I will be going on the Chunnel, so much quicker

Sorry I'm sharing the ferry with Tigcraft. Yes, book your own ferry and accommodation once we have a date.

I reckon if you turn on your undoubtable charm you could probably arrange it on the morning of the day in question. I take it you don't like mushrooms then ?
German markets usually have a vast array of mushrooms on offer. Very tempting to lovers of fungi.

Tunnel for me (as per usual!).
Choice of three main routes to Bad Bertrich - have done the E40 past Brussels and then pick up the E42 at Liege a few times on my way either to Spa Francorchamps or into the Mosel Valley. It's OK but a bit boring and getting round Brussels can be busy.
E42 past Lille and Mons and on to Namur is better in my very humble opinion then you can either stay on the E42 and carry on past Liege or go south on the E25 and travel through Luxembourg - done that in reverse and it was OK.
Not much to choose according to google maps - 477 to 524km.

Does anyone intending going on this trip :-
    1. Have a decent working Sat Nav
    2. Be capable of downloading rideout routes onto the aforementioned Sat Nav
from the routes supplied by the motel.
    3. Be prepared then to lead said rideouts.

    Just an update.
The people who run the accommodation in Bad Bertrich want us to book en-bloc. Neither Daniel nor I wish to be responsible for other peoples money.
We want individuals (or couples) to book their own accommodation just as we do on GMU's. I am still trying to forge a way through. Meanwhile Daniel is looking for other options(which are likely to be more expensive). I'll keep you posted.

I can get a a place very cheap about 17Km away . As it stands Bad Bertrich is 37.50 EACH plus taxes for me and my partner to stay works out at around 75 euro per night, if i stay 17 km away its only € 44 per night for the both of us with breakfast thrown in as well !! Thats €22 euro each . For the sake of a 20 min ride. There seems to be more accommodation down the road at Bridal. I can get a whole place https://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/11782177?location=Bad Bertrich&adults=2&children=0&infants=0&guests=2&check_in=2018-09-10&check_out=2018-09-14&s=sQIkFh98 for 31 Euro per night . Just putting it out there lads
Maybe hire a house with more bedrooms .....
