pos and con of these two helmets please. Caberg Drift Simpson Ghost whatever I choose I'll take it in carbon fiber
I know that shoei is a great brand, and it's not the only one... but I would like to know what would you choose between the two I put...
Whatever helmet you choose, check the date of manufacture on the sticker attached to the polystyrene under the lining. I bought (and returned!) a helmet earlier this year with the sticker showing 080422 which equated to 22/04/08 i.e. 22nd April 2008. I was not amused.
have you not looked at the nexx carbon xr2 about the £300 mark, i had the xr1r carbon very light and large aperture may buy the xr2r model look the dogs danglies.
I normally swap my helmet between 4 and 5 years, providing no knocks. If I do drop it or get a heavy knock I change it straight away. Wessa
i reckon they are good for 10 years if they haven't been dropped and the straps are still in good nick.. I've no way of proving this though.....but if someone is using it every day then they would probably be better changing it after 5 years
The helmet I was replacing was 3 months younger (I think) than the 'new' one. I had probably been using it for around 7-8 years, mainly at weekends but with occasional daily use when on holiday/touring.
Sorry for hijacking your thread mate! I have a habit of just posting when a question pops into my head!
I am guessing the OP preference is for a carbon fibre finish? Why did you narrow it to those two? There are plenty of criteria to apply from price to fit to finish to more objective SHARP/Snell scores, noise, comfort wearing specs, etc. The thing is, you already have a preference.......you just want us to confirm or confound your prejudices! Helmet life is a total variable dependant on construction (Polycarbonate hates sunlight and dies young!) with glass and carbon fibre longest lived. Actual life depends on use, knocks and deterioration of lining and chin strap, and from your care regime down to availability of replacement visores. How long is a piece of string and what is your head worth? Equally, it is pointless putting all your budget into a helmet at the expense of other protective gear. Maybe allocate a third to the helmet and two thirds to clothing, gloves and boots?
ok ok it is simple. I already have all the gear I just need to change my 2011 helmet, and I have to do the same for my girlfriend helmet. now I don't want to spend 500 euros each helmet and I would like to buy two equal helmets. at the same time I would like to buy a carbon fiber helmet, and so due to price quality ratio and appearance I ended up with these two.
