So am I (Norfolk originally) but I cannot agree with you over liking motorways. I tend to avoid them if possible on the bike - have even worked out a route to see my folks who still live out there that totally avoids all dual carriageways that will, according to TomTom, take me seven hours instead of two and half on the M40/M25/M11/A11 boringness.

You seem more normal on here. Loads seem to like the b roads I like the A roads, although again our A roads are still quite twisty which I like, just not to narrow and twisty

Motorways get you there and when I'm there, I have more time to enjoy the twisty roads.

Agreed, motorways have their uses. I got on the beginning of the M5 coming north last Monday morning at dawn. Mist hanging over the fields either side of me. Clear sky, the sun poking over the horizon. Bombing along on my Bandit trying to get as far as I could before the other thousands of tourists got on the road. It was surreal. By the time I got on the M6 it was sh1t. Too much traffic. Weavers, suicide jockies, the lot. No fun.

When I go to see my Dad in Dorset every month or so, I have to take the M25 car park from Essex, then the M3 car park then I go across the Wallops to Salisbury then to Weymouth. So a compromise mixture of M ways & cross country. My depresssion is lifted once I get under way from the M3. Longer but worth it.

Have to say I really enjoyed the trip from Bellingham down the A1/A1M with Rich and Wayne. Riding as a pair or threesome is good fun on a motorway.

Like most who have commented, motorways for me are a means to an end. A lot depends on what mood I'm in and how quickly I want to get where I'm going. I agree that riding with a mate (or mates) always makes the ride better.

Hate motorways on the bike, I do so much mileage on them in the car I will try to use them as little as possible on the bike, but they do get you there quicker!!

When using M25, spend 90% of the time on the inside lane of the 4 lanes coz Essex man & all his/herchums refuse to use it. I get round it even quicker. So much for the government enforcing fines on persistent lane hoggers & mobile phone users for that matter

:sob::sob::sob: looks like i'm not going to make the GMU, i've just heard my nephew is getting married that weekend..my brothers laddie so i have to go,i was really looking forward to going to Wales, i'd already prepared a cracking 550 mile route down avoiding all motorways and duel carriageways, apart from the 20 odd mile of the Edinburgh bypass: unamused:

if he wasn't such a nice guy i'd be tempted to do the pantie trick!,i did something similar to a mate years ago he's a sparkie and he was doing some work for me in the shop,i stuck a pair in the bottom of his tool box for a laugh, luckily his wife didn't see them, his work mate got the blame!;)

Get them to move the wedding to Wales Dougie. Early morning ceremony and you can still do the ride, and left overs from the reception for yer tea.
