I just toured the North Coast 500. Unfortunately not on my bike. The trip was absolutely wonderful. Breathtaking scenery on a fantastic bike riding road and with quite fine weather. Unfortunately what I didn't see was many Triumphs. Neither tourers nor adventure tourers. BMWs by the bucket load and a smattering of the others. I sometimes think that BMW owners are the most unimaginative and most easily led folks on the planet. But they are good well engineered bikes to be fair. Would you pay a bit more for a Triumph if the build quality and technology equaled a BMW? Don't get me wrong, I love my Tiger but I'd be happy to pay more if Triumph equaled or bettered our German neighbors... I believe in buying British when ever possible. Just interested to hear what you lads and lassies think at the risk of getting berated. Cheers and happy and safe summer riding.

Well as one of the Unimaginative B*W riders I think youre talking through your *** You'd probably be surprised to find that many owners of other marques personalise their bikes, maybe not in a way that stands out to you but that could be said of many of the personalisations folks on here carry out on their Triumphs.

Probably like most I have made changes to my bikes over the years many of them to improve handling or long distance comfort, including Hondas, Kawasaki's, yamahas, suzukis, Bsa's and yes my triumph when it eventually arrives.

    You obviously don't ride a B*W.

One reason you probably see a lot more BMW's up there is that they are a popular brand for the hire companies

I'm doing the NC500+ in a few weeks time, so add one more Triumph to the list.

Oops I seem to have unintentionally ruffled a few feathers. No I don't ride a BMW at present but have done in the past and am shaping up to buy a secondhand F800GS now. What my *** meant by unimaginative but probably didn't put too well, was that many of the BMW's on the road seem to be dressed with nothing else but Touratech extras and use pretty much the same tyres etc. as if the owners do minimum or no research and simply go for what everyone else has. Didn't mean to offend and apologize if offence taken. My *** just sometimes doesn't know what it's blowing about :) I ride a Tiger 800XC and love it but due to work I'm on a different continent now and have left my girl behind. Like yourself and most other riders, I of course changed and upgraded things to my personal requirements but from a plethora of vendors but including Touratech. Because of where I am presently posted BMW seems to be the wisest choice due to the availability of good quality secondhand machines, servicing and spares. Anyway, enjoy your new Triumph when it eventually arrives and stay safe.

:p oh yeh, I forgot the twat suits LoL. What defines a keyboard warrior? It's a public holiday where I am which is the only reason I have time to be writing this. BTW, I agree, this is probably the best forum I've looked at and I've received some good tips and advice in the past as well as having the p*#s taken LoL... Go well.

Hey Bob On, as Mick says, it's good to have an opinion and to start a debate.

Thanks for the clarification on the meaning of "keyboard warrior". I'm obviously not young enough to know all these new terms and didn't think to look in a dictionary. I don't think I'm in that category and was really trying to ask if other Triumph riders would be happy to pay a bit extra for a Triumph (particularly adventure and touring) that has equal or better build quality than the renowned BM? Don't misunderstand me, I ride a Triumph that I love but sometimes I think that some things could be done better. We all know that manufacturers purchase and strip down competitor's bikes to see what makes them tick. Wouldn't it be interesting to have all the good bits from other great bikes incorporated. BTW if anyone can recommend a wet weather suit that doesn't leak at the g*#ad region I'd appreciate it. Cheers and be safe

I've had several BMWs and several Triumphs and other marks over the years. This time my TTR ticks all the boxes I was looking for. And btw, Triumph tried to go big touring with the old and new Trophy. It was a copy ( with a triple motor) of the RT. Unfortunately their timing was off for that segment and it was a BIG flop.

I met a Belgian guy this summer, riding a GS1200 his third, BMW The guy just believes that BMW is the BEST
I commented on his Schuberth lid and asked if it was as quiet as people say, He said that they used to make lids exclusively for BMW and now they also make for themselves, they are cheaper,
I got the feeling he would not have considered anything that was not BMW (no point BMW is the BEST so why would you.

I did the NC 500 on my 30th a few years ago. In our group there was My Tbird, a Tiger, a speedmaster and a speed triple.

Also a couple of harleys, rice burners etc etc. was a great run.
