How about coming to the Limousin? Based around Lac Vassivière there are brilliant biking roads, beautiful weather, loads of lovely French women, good food and wine. etc etc

    What do we think??????????????????

Dave, it's a great idea but the ferry cost is always a drawback for many. I, for one, would love it and maybe it would have to be one of those "alternative" ride outs

Well that's fair comment mate, but for general info Going Newhaven/Dieppe is the cheapest way across the channel at about £65 for the round ticket.

In my opinion, I'm all for a foreign jaunt with members from this site, but not to make it the official annual GMU.

Those that want a little more adventure could go a foreign trip

But to make a GMU accessible and affordable to all members, I think it should really be UK based.

The problems with taking vehicle abroad is the insurance / breakdown / medical insurance side of things. A lot of guys might not want to bother with all of that when a GMU in the UK does not require any additional paperwork. planning.

I agree with the above, you just beat me to it with your post.
However, I'm all in favour of an IGMU 2018. It's been mentioned before and as long as it wasn't too far I'd want to go.

In fact somewhere where Northern and Southern contingents could meet up after taking different ferry routes would be a good idea. For example I would rather sail from Hull to Holland rather than having to ride 260/300 miles to a southern port.

I'd be up for that. :)

Think it sounds great. But not sure I would attend due to miles and miles of motorway to get to the ferry, plus the added expense. Be around 2000 miles return journey and rides for me, that's £300 for fuel and ferry before food and accommodation.

This wouldn't be a simple 3/4 days away, we're looking at a full week +, and not sure I could justify the time and money with SWMBO.

I agree GMU should stay UK based as this is where most members are, but as an additional foreign jaunt, why not.

IIRC, didn't we debate this option last year? And decided against for the same reasons.

There seems enough interest for an IGMU 2018 though Dave. :)

Moi ebenfalls, but preferably not too far from the ferry. Brittany, or Northern France and the Low Countries.

Well when I cross over to UK I go Dieppe Newhaven, so IF you guys did that, Dieppe to Caen is only about 120 mls and Caen is a great jumping off point for either doing WW2 visits or riding around Normandy eating and drinking and chilling.

Don't miss the delights of the Pont du Normandie!
SWMBO had several kittens when she saw it looming up in the distance and realised that we had to cross the bloody thing:eek::eek:. Free on a bike though - I like free:) (as a right thinking Yorkshireman:p).
