    Hello guys.

    So here it is.
From the 5th of august I will riding my ass down to Britanny.
It's my first solo motorcycling trip.

I have two full days to get my Bonneville and I to Plymouth.
So i was thinking of mostly ditching the Motorways and such, and take all my time to get down there.

So I created my way down to start with, in 3 parts on MyrouteApp.

It's quite long rides... I'm planning on 8.30 departures, with a roughly 1h break every 2 hours. Roughly arriving at 8pm at destination each day.

And if you want to have a look at them, give me any advices, warn me of anything senseless choices I have made or something...

    Cheers guys.

Glasgow to Manchester should be quicker Sam.
Breaks may be too long at 1 hour. When I go to Chester I tend to stop 3 times.
Two of those are fag breaks and one for lunch.
Cuts the time down quite a bit :)
Remember not going by motorway means slower average speeds due to traffic / congestion and lower speed limits.
If the journey is just to munch miles , consider doing part of it on the motorway to spend less time in the saddle.
Other than that enjoy your trip :)

I'm planning for the worst and calculating an overall journey. I'd much rather be faster than this than too long and miss my ferry :p

Doesn't MyRouteApp calculates its times regarding those routes ?
Anyhow, indeed, if it's taking too long i'll just crack down on the motorway.

    Thank you !

    Enjoy your first trip.
Nearly 300 miles is a long day, stopping just adds more time.A 12 hour day is very tiring.I'm not saying you should avoid motorways but it does drop your average speed right down.
There's some good routes in here http://www.ride.co.uk/routes/ you can trim them to suit yourself.

Edited route 1/3 to crack on the motorway for the first 2h. Saves me an hour overall.

    ...... 2 ... 4 ... ... 6 ... Skye lots of stops and lunch
    .. .... 3 ... 4 ... ... 7 ... dont know didnt stop except fuel
    . .... 4 ... 2.5 ....... 4.... slow twisting road
    . ..... 5 ..... 3 ..... .. 7.5 .... Mr o senic Great run weather
    . ...... 7 .... 5.5 ... ... 7 ..... senic 1 stop weather

Realy enjoyed it, and had all day anyway, Thems the figures though.

I had to answer to your message to understand your formatting was all screwed up.

Anyways, i do expect that. Which is why, knowing myslef I won't take an hour break in most cases, but I plan for the longest trip i can. I don't know yet if l'm camping or not. What really matters, is for me to be at 9pm in plymouth, sunday and that should not be too much of a problem.

First off enjoy the ride as that's the main goal.

    A few observations from experience
do you know your tank range ? and your safety margin ?
Have you planned your fuel stops ? Where they are and wheres your next nearest ?
have you planned time for fuel stops ?

Likewise have you planned your food & Hydration stops ?
What if its extra hot weather ( you'll need more hydration ), or the reverse and you run into heavy rain ? ( Unlikely in the uk I know :) )

Even changing into and out of rain gear takes time.

Have you planned to allow for small issues that may stop or delay you on your trip ? Are you carrying a puncture repair kit & a small tool kit including bulbs ( instrument bulbs can cause havoc if the go out leaving you unable to read the clocks ) I had a tacho cable break and the speedo bulbs went on one long trip !

Unless you are used to long days in the saddle ( weeks of previous practice of at least 2/3 of your planned days ) you will struggle with the pain inflicted by even the most comfortable seat, sitting for 3 days @ probably 10 hours a day.

I would suggest using more motorways and faster roads at the beginning of each day and sightseeing later when youre nearer you daily destination when you have the time to spare.

Please don't look at this as negative, but its my way of looking at and planning ride like the one youre looking at, if you look at it from the point of view if it can go wrong it will, at least you have some idea of a contingency plan in mind.

As I said at the beginning enjoy the trip

Yes. I can easily do 100 miles / 120 without hitting reserve and as soon as 100 is done I will start thinking about my next refuel. good occasion for a break.

Yes, at maximum, every two hours, I will have a bottle of water on me, hopping to fill it as soon as I stop, and I will have rain gear (that proved effective last week end :D ) on quick access in my panniers.

Tools, yes, a pressure gauge as well, UK breakdown cover and insurrance, but I don't think i'd be able to repair in the go a faulty tacho. Puncture repair kit, is a welcomed advice... haha. :D
So... I'll.... pray.... My bike was on 1st year check (6000miles) 6 weeks ago... Almost all was good, the front brake and rear alignment were re adjusted. Let's be positive. Everything will be fine. :)

I did previous rides of 4h or more of riding... Anyways.... My holidays are planned and my family is waiting for me. I'll make the most to get there safe and easy. I'm not a big risk taker.

That's mostly what I tried to do, mostly because I find (maybe naively) motorways more 'dangerous'. So I'd rather be at the top of my focus on them. In the morning. After writing this, I will again, take a look at my roads, to see if I can shorten / fasten the trip.

I would not take this bad, I come here for advice from more experienced bikers. All point of views and testimonies are welcome and I value the lessons from more experienced riders than me.

    Thanks for your input.

I've used similar kits and theyre a good get you going again kit, but , you need to complete the job by checking pressures at a garage.
As long as the tyre is still seated on the rim you should be ok, if not you need to reseat it asap.

Reducing the riding time is good, work within what you know you can manage and it will be fine ........ Good luck o_O

I have a pocket pressure gauge which proved very efficient and accurate over the last year, but of course, If I see a puncture happening, I'll make sure to adress it correctly.

    Cheers for your input.
