The language is 'Weegie' and in the East it is 'Embra'. In the North East it is 'Doric' and in the far NW 'they have the Gaelic' (pronounced 'gallic'.). In my neck of the hills it is 'Scots'. All benefit from liberal libations of the water of life (uisce na beatha) for fullest rendition and comprehension.

The French Enlightenment writer, philosopher and historian Voltaire (1694 - 1778), (who published more than 20,000 letters and 2,000 books and pamphlets, was an outspoken supporter of social reform and civil liberties, including freedom of religion and expression and separation of church and state.) said two really important things:

We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilisation”

"God created sex. Priests created marriage." Belated congratulations!

Hey mates, I saw a very interesting feature on 'fish&chips' today on tv.
The place, where they prepared them was in the town of Whitby (Magpie Café).

I reflected that never in my life, I had some for myself ...

Any of you locals know a good place on our proving grounds where I could taste some???

    Cheers, Daniel :sun:

(oh and I should add: 35 deg here. Rivulets of sweat running down my neck while I am packing up my stuff, pondering which sweater should I bring... This is weird.)

So I just decided, after my last and final German beer yesterday, I have an even laster and finaler beer today at my pub of choice... Cheers!

AND HAVE A SAVE TRIP EVERYONE!

Fish and chips wrapped in newspaper !! - well I dont think Bellingham has a dedicated fish and chip shop it may well be served in the cafes but not a shop
Otterburn (close by 6/7 mile) I think just has a mobile van selling fish and chips,
So I reckon weather permitting your best chance lies on the ride out 12 miles away Hayden Bridge has a chippie I'm sure Mr O knows of some in the area for you to have your first taste.

Fish chips and mushy peas was one of the things I missed after moving to Holland. I've been in Bolton just over a week and have had 2 lots of fish chips already. There's a really nice chippy just down the road from the apartment and if for some strange reason you don't want that they do quite a lot of Chinese meals on the menu too. Their Special Fried Rice and curry sauce is delicious.
But Yorkshire fish and chips are still the best.

I love all things Scottish, but have to admit, Yorkshire do the best Fish & Chips. And if you get a proper Fishcake (two layers of potato with fish in the middle) - we refered to it as a Sheffield Fishcake, they are bloody lovely. Last had one on the road down to last years GMU.:yum

Put a little poll in the LOUNGE.

    https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/gmu-rideouts-poll.10468/

Just to give an idea of how to split the two groups on Saturday / Sunday. Be honest, we're not all out there riding the balls off our bikes, or claiming to. This is just a staw poll, nothing set in concrete and groups can change on the day. As I have mentioned before, the plan is for a spirited group to set off first (my lead, Littleade as TEC) and a bimble group, kindly volunteered to be lead by Crispey, with Winglad as TEC or some kindly volunteer to act as bike TEC, in front of Daniel in the tintop. This is going to be a lesiurely ride through the beautifal borders region, so won't be a race, even in group 1. Looking at 10~15 bikes in each group, roughly.

Ran a similar event in D&G, a few years back for the SV650.org forum.

On the Friday the rain was so heavy, they shut parts of the M6 :dizzy: There was wide scale flooding over big area's of England and Wales. Lots of people dropped out on the Thursday night / Friday morning, but quite a few brave and hardy souls made their way up here. Was a grand night of tales of bravery & how bad conditions were and a good spirited competition of who had had it the worst (talk of axle deep puddles). Was a fine tale to tell and recounted for a few years after by some. The predictions were for it to carry on over the whole weekend.

On the Saturday morning we woke up to a soaked campsite/bunkhouse and the overnight rain would have kept you awake, had we been totally sober! The rest of the day was absolutely brilliant, clouds soon cleared and sun was out and roasting us by lunchtime. The number of those that didn't make the trip were severly pissed off when pictures were posted after the weekend. The forecast was black couds and heavy rain all day - never happened.

Can't promise it will happen again, but if it rains all day, so be it. Weather forecasts are steadily improving and I have every confidence we will get a couple of good days riding in. If it does piss it down massively, be a grand tale to tell at GMU2018 !!!

2020 GMU- "Were you at GMU2017?", "You mean the 'WET ONE' ?", "Yeah, that was a crackin weekend, weather was pish, but still had a belter!"

p.s. - I will be taking a waterproof jacket to get between pub / off licence / bunkhouse !!!
