Need some help here, reacently I'v got a ratteling noice on the right hand side of my engine. Do not like it, enyone knowns what this might be? Sounds like it comes from the clutch housing. Cam chain and tensioner is brand new.
Not realy, I have upgraded to the new alternator shaft. The noice fades a bit with more rpm's. I am woundering if this could be that the clutchbasket bearing is worn.
mmmm I was gonna say the alternator upgrade. These engines are a little agricultural at tickover. if your carbs are evened out and the engine is smooth revving maybe you have nout to worry about
. Bolts shear on end of alternator- easy fix. bolts shear on end of starter idle gear splined shaft. This needs an engine strip. these were replaced by a through bolt and nut but needs a new shaft. Also it may need a new shim behind the clutch basket.
I have done the alternator fix, and as far that I can see there is in some point of time been put at trough bolt to the starter. I did remove the clutch cover yesterday an I have a bit of a slack in the clutch basket needle bearing. So I have ordered a new needle bearing and bushing. Hopefully this will take care of it. The fingers on the clutch basket are even an withouth any damage.
My bike is like a tractor at tickover, never had any problems though, reminds me of my old GPZ750 It had same rattle . Noisy exhausts sorts the problem
The GPZ's were noisy because of the chain primary drive. Made worse when the carbs were out. My GT550 is very similar.
I fear of making a fool of my self, I am not english and there is a term used here that I am not sure what is. I have a fair idea but would someone be kind enough to put my mind at ease and explain the term "tickover"
